Ding ding. What’s this? Aurora alert at 10pm on a Sunday??? How strong could it be really? Ohhhh….thats pretty strong. Very tired…can’t go far. Check the dark sky map. A two minute drive off a major highway? 30 mins from my house? Cloudy but gaps? Mission accepted……results below. It’s all about the chase.

A big thank you to EVERYONE who took the time to come to my Milky Way meet up last night. It was great to see new and familiar faces! We had wonderful weather with good clear skies with a dousing of a few passing clouds. I love this location as it’s relatively close to Toronto and you get a quality dark sky.

A huge thanks to for bringing his lightsaber and cloak and creating a super fun photoshoot. I just love this community.

Milky Way Meet Up! I’ve been wanting to do a Milky Way meet up for over a year now but the schedule just hasn’t worked out. But now let’s get this done! Please save and share this post as I will update the meet up information here.

Date: Friday July 5th at 10:30pm - 3 am
Cloudy Date: Saturday July 4th at 10:30pm - 3am
Location: Cobourg East Pier (beside Cobourg Beach)
What to bring:
-Camera (with knowledge of how to change your aperture, speed, and ISO…please know this prior to the meet up)
- tripod
- mosquito spray
- dress according to the weather

Strawberry Moon rising over The Windseeker at

So I was invited last second by to a sunset shoot that fizzled out. So we pivoted and went for a moonrise chase instead. We looked at PhotoPills quickly to see what we could plan but unlike most times, I said let’s just go to the spot and just go with the flow. Sometimes things are great planned and sometimes it’s just fun to see what you get on a whim.

I would say I’m average at best at framing a shot. I really am a ‘see and shoot’ kinda guy. I do take inspiration from in how she takes the time to always try and frame her photos just right. Maybe I’m just too excited to take a photo, but framing a photo is an important part of a nice composition. Give Michele a follow if you aren’t already.

I am still pinching myself over last night’s spectacular show. This is obviously a massive check off the bucket list as I have always wanted to see the Aurora with my own eyes. I’ve seen it through a camera in the Toronto area but not with my own eyes. Last night had colours exploding in the air and I was literally in heaven. What an amazing experience. 2024 is giving like a rich Uncle!
