We hosted 72 children this week at Pikinini Pilai.

We had the usual line up of activities; mandatory yoga and then we had the children go to their selected classes (We have options of circus, kungfu, kickboxing and dance).
We also have the end of class meal; which is loaded with nutrients and it is plant based.

We invite you to bring your children at our next session next week Monday from 3pm to 5pm at the Southside Fitness Centre, Koki.

We also have something fun coming up for our children so stay tuned on our socials.

02/08/2023

We have Pikinini Pilai sessions on today from 3pm to 5pm at the South Side Fitness Centre, Koki (Just opposite the fish market).

We have four elective activities for children to choose from and they are; Circus (and acrobats), dance, kungfu and kick boxing.

Yoga is mandatory before every session because when children practice yoga it increases their confidence, builds concentration and strengthens growing bodies. For children with behavioral issues, yoga can improve their impulses in a positive direction and provides them with an outlet as a way to manage their behavior.

Our program is FREE and we do it because we believe that No child should be left behind.

Research has shown that child play helps enhance a child's mental capacity and problem solving skills; all very vital skills in child development.

At Pikinini Pilai, our avenue of play is in the form of our core activities; Circus & Acrobats, Dance, Kung Fu, Kick boxing and we have mandatory yoga, to help our children be in tune with their minds, bodies and spirit.

We are located at the Southside Fitness Centre at Koki (opposite the fish market) and run activities every Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm to 5pm.

The children who participate in Pikinini Pilai program are exposed to violence on a daily basis. They are often victim to their parent, guardians or community members frustrations and as a result are often broken emotionally.

Through our program we allow for them to forget about the violence and engage in the moment and be children

On Wednesday, the 14th of June 2023, we had the RSPCA PNG Education team visited our children at Pikinini Pilai.
We had Maria, education coordinator for RSPCA PNG along with two education presenters who carried out the presentation for our children.
The program featured; a presentation on basic pet care, the children learnt to make balloon poodles, we learnt the RSPCA song and Wantok the dog came to visit (Puppet show). It was a day filled with fun and so much laughter from the children, as they learnt and also actively participated.
So much engagement, new information learned and a room full of happy, excited children inspired to take better care of their pets.

Thank you RSPCA Port Moresby team for visiting Pikinini Pilai.

Pikinini Pilai addresses the importance of good health, good nutrition and good hygiene practices.
While there are many reasons why we teach good hygiene, these are the main ones.

We believe that no child must be left behind.

At , part of our program is to provide a well balanced plant based meal for the children who participate and in our program.

We have listed some, but not all reasons why a plant-based diet is important. We will post part 2 and 3 over the course of the year.

02/06/2023

For this week we had a total of 87 children. We understand why our numbers were low, it was a rainy start of the week.
44% of our participants were girls, which is almost close to half even in unpromising weather conditions

We are excited to have RSPCA of PNG accept our invitation to run their Humane Education Program for the kids of Pikinini Pilai next month 🙂

Pikinini Pilai works alongside street children and their need to play. We have a diversed range of children and many do come from low income earning families. Which mean they do not normally have money set aside for clothes, books, and toys.

We are giving you the opportunity to help our children by opening up our Donation Drive. You can help our cause by donating pre loved items you might have at home.

This week at Pikinini Pilai we had a rather slow week, because of the public holiday and the rainy weather.
For this week we had 64 participants in our Wednesday Session at the Koki Southside Fitness Centre. We hope for clear skies and more eager children next week.

At Pikinini Pilai we choose to work with street kids, this is because we believe in the concept of “No Child Left behind”. We cannot provide them schools, but we can provide them an avenue to be themselves and be allowed to fully express themselves. Which for many is a right they do not get to exercise in their homes and communities.

We have Pikinini Pilai Sessions on every Mondays and Wednesdays at the Koki Southside Fitness Centre, from 3pm to 5pm.

Did you know that Pikinini Pilai provides meals for children at the end of every session? We make sure at the end of our activities our children eat nice, healthy plant based meals. Plant based meals are good for gut health, so it better aids absorption of nutrients that support our immune system and reduces inflammation. Foods high in unhealthy fats might be a norm because normally that's what is affordable. We provide plant based meals filled with plant based protein to emphasize on the importance of good nutrition. At Pikinini Pilai we make sure our children not only play but have access to good, healthy food.

Pikinini Pilai is a program turned organization that focuses on teaching children the importance of good health, good hygiene and good nutrition through physical activities such as; Kungfu, Kickboxing, circus, yoga and dance.

Most of our participants come from struggling families and it means not enough extra money for shoes, clothes, toys, books and other necessities they might need as growing children. We will be launching our “OPEN DONATION DRIVE” for our children soon and we are giving our virtual community a heads up before we do.

If you have preloved toys, clothes, books or anything that a child between ages 6 to 13 years old might need please watch this space to see how you can be part of this we speak so fondly of.

Our featured Teacher today is Graham Evi who takes care of the dance classes, he is an amazing performer and is one of the best people for this job. Graham started dancing in 2009 and says that every day is a day to fine-tune his craft and be more creative in what he teaches. He started teaching dance in 2018, this will be his fifth year teaching. One of the best parts about teaching for Graham is being in a position to guide and cultivate talent that’s already there in these children and being in that position to create positive mindsets while they learn and enjoy the sessions. One of his greatest challenges as a teacher is communication with his students and also other teachers as well, sometimes it becomes a hassle but over the years he has managed to be flexible in dealing with these challenges and making the most out of every day. He is happy many times because dancing with his students gives his students a more positive outlook on life, and in turn they share with their peers of their experiences and feelings and it creates good vibes especially when they attend classes and are able to do a choreographed routine flawlessly.

You can catch Graham with his dance class at the Southside Fitness Centre, Koki every Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm to 5pm.

It's the beginning of another great week here at Pikinini Pilai. For today's session, we have a total of 103 children participating.

We have 45 who are girls and 58 who are boys. The reason why we tally numbers based on gender is because we want to see how our program is affecting our children based on gender. A typical PNG household consists of girls being bombarded with housework and it can get mentally draining for a girl of ages 6 to 13 years old, it is a good thing for character building but too much of it can suppress girls to a point of frustration and it also decreases her self esteem growing up.

We emphasize the importance of equal opportunities for both boys and girls to participate in our activities, because these activities are not just to encourage play. We use our activities as tools to advocate for good values, teaching our children to be good citizens and do so by consistently attending our program and exercising and instilling within themselves that much needed discipline to be awesome advocates of change in the future.

Remember, our next session is on this Wednesday at the SouthSide Fitness Centre, Koki from 3pm to 5pm.

You are more than welcome to bring your children or siblings along if they are interested. We offer; dance, circus, kickboxing and kung fu, all for free.

The programs at Pikinini Pilai would not be possible without the help and support of our amazing teachers. This is why for the next 6 weeks we will be writing a feature about our teachers and you, our followers, our parents and guardians know who is taking care of your children when they are at Pikinini Pilai.

Today, we feature our head teacher, Jomeda

Jomeda has been working within the program for the last seven (7) years, he teaches yoga to the children who participate in the activities of the Pikinini Pilai Program. He became actively involved in yoga in 2016 and has recently picked up teaching.

He says his favorite part of teaching is having a fun class and he also loves it when his students become engaged in activities that include creating art projects or painting.

One of his challenges as a teacher is mobility. He teachers 4-5 classes in a day and it can be hectic moving around with very strict timing expectations. But, overall he is glad and motivated each day to continue teaching especially when the children in the program display signs of being open minded and they show signs that they trust their teachers while attending the program is one of its many rewards for Jomeda.

At Pikinini Pilai, we are grateful for the help, support and dedication displayed by our teachers, we would not be able to deliver for these children if we didn’t have these values displayed by our hard working teachers.

Hello Olgeta

A quick recap from last week. We had a total of 288 participants for the week (numbers from both Monday and Wednesday combined).

Pikinini Pilai is on every Mondays and Wednesdays at the SouthSide Fitness Center, Koki from 3pm to 5pm.
Our activities are; Dance, Kickboxing, Kungfu, Circus and Yoga.

We do these physical activities to instill good behaviour in our participants. We teach them values but more so, focus holistically on the importance of good health, good nutrition and practising good hygiene.

Throughout the year we will be sharing our activities and celebration of our special days to ensure our children at Pikinini Pilai are empowered, included and build so much confidence in themselves that they know they are making an impact in their lives by choosing to come engage in the activities we have in our program.

Last week we held our World Malaria Day celebrations with our Pikininis. The theme for the 2023 World Malaria Day is "Time to Deliver Zero Malaria: Invest, Innovate, Implement”. Activities included an hour, of physical activities, short talks on Malaria facilitated by the teachers of Pikinini Pilai Inc, followed by a colouring session with the kids who attended. Each child who attended was also gifted with a Malaria colouring book and colour pencil set sponsored by Rotary Against Malaria Papua New Guinea.
