There are a lot of things I’d change about this piece. But also: oh well?

I’m not saying it gets any easier to experiment and it then turn out to not be a wild success (in my opinion🥲) but it does feel slightly less like a tragedy. And maybe more like something learned? Maybe?

Art is expression, I guess. 🤍👁️

Finished this piece last night 💀🥀✨

Sketched by hand, and wood burned by hand. I want to try new techniques with the flowers soon. But here I do enjoy the heavy shading on them in contrast to the minimal shading on the skull. Even with darker themes depicted here (death, decay) this scene feels sweet to me.

Maybe it’s how the skull’s eye sockets seem upturned towards the sky, or the lushness of the florals. Peaceful, still. 🤍

My first wood burning piece after a small hiatus. I love her. From the bark on this cherry wood, to the shape of the wood slice itself, to the gentle, delicate lines of the wood burned flowers ✨ 🌿 I’m so grateful for the time I have to practice this skill, and for the ability to encourage myself and celebrate myself in each small, or big, accomplishment. 🤍

Stormy Meadow 🌿⛈✨

Finally finished and gifted this piece! The way the greens are painted reminds me of rain, or the moments before a storm. I loved the tiny details in this one. Next time I’d add way more, even.

Transformation & Peace 🤍✨

The Triple Moon Goddess and the butterfly have a lot in common, actually. Metamorphosis, the flow of life. Femininity. Pairing these symbols with rose quartz felt like a way to honor that.

Hand sketched onto sourwood round, then wood burned and painted with acrylics. Finishing touch was bringing it all together with the gold hardware.

My collection of Mountain Scene Wall Decor ✨⛰🤍🏔🌿
I start each one of these by sketching out the mountain peaks on a large or medium sized basswood coaster. Next we take it to the scroll saw for shaping and blocking, then it’s all detailing and shaping with the Dremel and knives, if necessary. Lastly, it’s the wood burning and painting.

A mix of rotary tool and knives, these fellas come from cedar and pine. I love to carve cedar, but pine is most often a lovely experience as well. I added wood burned details to one, but I do enjoy the more rustic look of the other two without burned details.

I love the way the vine curls up at the end, reaching. Another dark botanical because it brings me joy to make these. I think it’s the contrast of the burning on the light colored wood. Tiny details. 🤍💚
