Greenwood was charged with attempted r**e, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, before the charges were dropped in February by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

In a statement released today, Manchester United said: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.

“It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”

Chelsea are reportedly ‘close’ to completing the £115million signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton. This comes as Liverpool are refusing to walk away from the deal as they look to boost their midfield options.

Harry Kane has signed his Bayern Munich contract and completed a medical ahead of a £100m move from Tottenham, with the England captain hopeful of making his debut on Saturday.

Kane landed in Germany on Friday night and completed the first part of his medical at Barmherzige Bruder hospital in west Munich.
