Great news from Governor Mills office: January 28, 2021
Governor Janet Mills announced today that she will end the 9:00 p.m. early closing time for businesses, effective Monday, February 1, 2021. The decision is the result of Maine’s improving public health metrics, including a decrease in Maine’s positivity rate and new COVID-19 cases per million.

Starting February 1, those businesses that had been subject to the requirement may resume evening operating hours while continuing to follow other public health and safety requirements outlined in the COVID-19 Prevention Checklists.

Maine is a pretty special place, and lucky for us, made up of the best people. Now, we really all need to do our part to keep COVID at bay. Infections, hospitalizations, and yes, deaths, are on the rise across the country. Let’s keep Maine in a better state. We’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel — working together, we can get through this.

“Short of closing businesses and schools and requiring people to stay home, which is the last thing I want to do, especially during the holidays, we are running out of available public health tools to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Maine. Hospitalizations are on the rise, more people are getting sick, and more people are dying,” Mills said.
The governor’s executive order also clarifies that claiming a medical exemption is not an excuse to enter or remain in an establishment without a face covering.
Mills said the clarification is a result of reports from retailers of individuals abusing the exemption.
Reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities exist to protect such individuals as well as others from COVID-19 in public settings.

Information about face masks and seated food and drink businesses. This information is from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development website."Require employees to wear cloth face coverings. Because employees may be in an enclosed space for a prolonged period, it is important for them to wear face coverings even when physically distanced. It is acceptable for kitchen staff to wear a face shield in lieu of a face covering when the kitchen or weather is warm and would cause face coverings to become wet or soiled quickly.
