Millions of dollars worth of dune repair work washed away in Pinellas County after Gulf storm 19/12/2023

stop sinking money Into placing sand that washes away... like it's supposed to. Arrogant to think you can stop the process by which barrier islands move. Beaches erode during storms. The status quo is impossible to keep up with-- tax contributions will never keep up with the monetary cost of renourishment.

I couldn't care less about the possessions of a person who decides to live in a million dollar condo on the Gulf Coast. Accept the risk of coastal flooding or move inland. Let the buildings collapse and turn into oyster reefs or sea breaks.

Millions of dollars worth of dune repair work washed away in Pinellas County after Gulf storm After Idalia devastated Pinellas County beaches, the end of hurricane season didn't mean the event of damaging weather to the coastline.

EVs are still a huge waste of resources tbh. A 10-15 year old Prius can get a reliable 400 miles from $25 of gas, and you can get it serviced by a standard mechanic. They have a proven track record in terms of reliability, and you can get a pretty standard one around $10k, which is way more reasonable for a working class person.

(cropped) Graphs and text from Bloomberg Green :
"Charging an EV battery isn’t as simple as putting a hose in a gasoline tank. To start, some vehicles can accept more power than others. The latest generation of Superchargers is capable of supplying up to 350 kilowatts, for example, but many cars — including Ford’s Mustang Mach-E SUV and F-150 Lightning pickup — top out at less than half of that...
Finally, time spent at the charger is affected by how efficiently a vehicle uses the energy from its battery. Rivian’s R1S three-row SUV, for instance, uses twice as much electricity per mile as Tesla’s Model 3"

How to describe 2023 in two words? Global boiling. 16/12/2023

My favorite concept off this list? "Climate quitters" and by extension strikers! If we are going to be selling our labor, then our effort shoulf be put towards something that aligns with our values.

I live and die for the outright drama of "global boiling" tho!

How to describe 2023 in two words? Global boiling. Forget "rizz." These 10 words defined the hottest year ever.

Without fall leaves, there are no spring fireflies. We must reassess why we stuff leaves into plastic bags and ship them off to landfills. Ask ourselves why we willingly remove this compost that transforms into rich mulch given a little time? Who sells us deafening leafblowers and gas-chugging lawnmowers that pollute the air and shave our lawns? Who profits from our eroding topsoil, pushing for synthetic fertilizers instead of using what the trees grew for free?
It is time to become good stewards of the land again. Leave the leaves. Forests require leaflitter to stay healthy and grow, it is the same in our backyards. Pollinators will overwinter in your piles, including frogs and amphibians, butterflies and moths and bees and fireflies. Protect them. Shield your local ecosystem if you can, it needs your help. This is the way forward.
It is okay to experiment the first few autumns, it can take a few years to learn where to pile them for optimal breakdown, or learn how to avoid smothering warmer-season plants. I am still learning as well. It’s not too late. Leave the leaves!
