Had a great time at the Wake County Libertarian Party Convention last night!
The men behind the campaign. I am so incredibly grateful for these guys! David Ulmer and Brad Hessel work so hard every year to make a difference in Wake County. From making sure all my paperwork is filled out and turned in on time to ordering yard signs and business cards. They truly do it all. Thank you for everything you've done for me these last two election cycles!

People, not politics. That's what's important! I truly loved meeting and his lovely wife .bananamoonblog at his campaign fundraiser last year. It was a great reminder to get out there and vote for passionate people that want to make Raleigh, Wake County and North Carolina prosperous and incredible places to live for all. 🗳
Hey y'all! Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Kat McDonald (the cute dog is Aria) and I am running for North Carolina House of Representatives District 34 as the Libertarian candidate.
I'm a North Carolinian, a law clerk at a family law firm in downtown Raleigh, and a law student at Campbell Law.
I received my Associates Degree from in 2014 and my Bachelor's in Political Science from in 2017. I am currently working towards my J.D. at (class of 2023!)
I am running because I am passionate about moving our community forward in the right direction. As a Libertarian, I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I am seeking to maximize political freedoms and lessen government interference.
I hope you get involved and vote in this election! Your voice matters!

The State Alcohol & Beverage Control System is unfair and outdated. It's a perfect example of things government does for no good reason.

Our candidates have filed with the Wake County Board of Elections. The candidates are listed as follows: Senate 13 (Michael C. Munger), Senate 14 (Matthew Laszacs), Senate 15 (Sammie Brooks), Senate 16 (Dee Watson), Senate 17 (Patrick Bowersox), Senate 18 (Ryan Brown), House 21 (Joshua Morris), House 33 (Chris Costello), House 34 (Kat McDonald), House 35 (Joseph Serio), House 36 (Kyle Ward), House 37 (Christopher Robinson), House 38 (Chris Mizelle), House 40 (Michael Nelson), House 41 (Travis Groo), House 49 (Michael Oakes), House 66 (Micao Penaflor).
“Dissatisfaction with the establishment parties is not a new thing or a flavor-of-the-month,” noted Wake County Libertarian Party Chair Travis Groo. “However it plays out, WakeLP’s become a force to be reckoned with, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.”

Housing affordability is critically important to equitable access to opportunity in North Carolina. The issue here is that some local leaders abuse their power and act selfishly in the interest of a handful of wealthy homeowners. Status quo activists use exclusionary zones to "protect neighborhoods" and drive up costs. This allows for middle to lower income families to have to live further away from the centralized viable jobs. We do not want this. We want to fight for a more diverse North Carolina allowing growth to occur, commutes to be shorter, for more people to have access to our amazing public transport systems and create more resilient and adaptable neighborhoods. Our goal is to promote a housing affordability plan that creates a nondiscriminatory opportunity for all! 🏘

Let’s talk alcohol policy. Did you know North Carolina is the only state with local government control over liquor sales? NC is a “license state” when it comes to beer and wine and a “control state” when it comes to liquor. Only 16 other states are control states. Bars, distilleries, breweries and the hospitality industry are thriving in this state. So, why are we so behind when it comes to state laws regarding alcohol policy? Because the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) Commission is a government monopoly that looks to maximize revenue while minimizing both choice and competition. The fact is a large portion of adults in this state enjoy consuming alcohol. The numbers prove that. The revenue the ABC is over $1 billion in sales, but in 2018 only 38% of this money went to government purposes. The ABC Commission is no longer the most efficient way to contribute to the state of North Carolina. I propose that we turn North Carolina into a license state when it comes to liquor. This will require the removal the ABC boards, selling the current ABC stores, dismantling the ABC warehouse and freeing the distilleries from the red tape of the ABC Comission. Cheers! 🍻
Go out and vote! 🇺🇸
Can you even believe it snowed in North Carolina this week when it’s this beautiful out in Raleigh today?! ☀️
