What does your contractor do when things go sideways?

Like- "toilet is flushing straight into the crawlspace" sideways?

This client is in a 1 bath house and they needed it accessible, and fast. They hired us for a quick surface refresh: installing a low curb shower system, putting in a ADA height toilet, adding bars, and giving the room new fixtures.

Easy 3-4 day project, right? No worries.

As soon as we started demolition, we smelled something very...very wrong.

Instead of pushing forward with a quick remodel, our lead supervisor dug through three layers of subfloor to discover the cast iron main in the crawlspace was cracked, the toilet drain had been hooked with nothing more than a rubber gasket and a few hose clamps, and the toilet was flushing straight into the space below. 🤮

Back at the office, Yu called in connections to get a sewer professional out to the site ASAP. He paid for the initial camera scope because- sure we could fix the crack we could see- but what if the damage wasn't just under the house?

Good call. The damage continued beyond the crawlspace and under the client's garage. Working late into the evening, he coordinated between both the sewer company and interior plumber to get this project back on track- miraculously loosing just two days on the schedule.

Yu has this aphorism of "Would I let my mother live in this house?" The whole team- and the client- saw what that really means in action at this project.

It's not always the projects with the flashiest designer finishes that make you proud. It's going home at night knowing you work with a team that takes the extra effort to do the right thing. 🥰

Hard to believe but...our deck season is in full swing! In 2 weeks we've:
- knocked out a small full rebuild and roof lift
- did a complete demo and composite rebuild on a wrap around porch
- and rebuilt handrails on a rental

1) step in a wet paint pan
2) knock more than three bits down a flight of stairs
3) rip down the protective plastic between construction area and the rest of the house
4) or successfully sneak through an open window.
