"If it feels good, do it"
- My Mom

For as long as I can remember, my pack leaders have always pointed me in the right direction, my mother, father, and sister have never lead me astray. As my journey through life continued I added numerous members to my pack, all of which added their own individual flare. My wife, Galit, has shown me the true definition of hard work. 3. Externally rotate shoulders and place forearms on the frame.
4. Gently ease into the stretch by rocking body forward!

I thought this needed to be shared:

“Knowing how to use this one life to its fullest requires wisdom more than knowledge. Wisdom is different and fundamentally more important than knowledge. We live in a time when knowledge (the number of facts) doubles every six months, but wisdom is in short supply. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts, whereas wisdom is the ability to discern what matters and what does not matter. Unless we can discover what really matters, we cannot find true meaning in life.”

New G2Health Wisdom Drop!

Today I want to spend a few minutes talking about eggs. Don't you find it kind of weird that there are so many options for eggs out there? Different colors, packaging, and prices but which one to choose. The food industry has made it very hard to make a decision because the laws regarding packaging, and therefor marketing, are really vague.

Empty Calorie Beverage Allowance!

Empty Calorie Beverages are so tempting this time of year but provide you with little to zero nutritional benefits. When I talk about empty calorie beverages, I mean all drinks that provide huge amounts of calories with little payoff. Think about coffees, soda, alcohol, sports drinks, ready to drink smoothies, fruit juices, the options are steadily growing.

Let’s create a plan to help combat over consumption of these beverages. I call it my Empty Calorie Allowance! This plan consists of a weekly quota that allows you to consume a “reasonable” number of these beverages over a week. Now remember, reasonable needs to be directly influenced by your goals. If you are trying to lose weight, this number should be very low if not zero, if you are trying to gain body weight, then you may be allowed to put a few more of these beverages into your plan.

Spinach! Let’s eat more of it.

There is a reason why Popeye becomes so strong when he eats this powerfully awesome vegetable. Spinach fits into a category of dark, leafy greens like kale, chard, and collard greens, chock full of numerous vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. All these dark greens are packed with carotenes and carotenoids as well as some very important sulfur compounds. Spinach in particular packs a punch with heart-protective folate and iron, as well as vitamin K for bone strength. One of my favorite things about spinach is its versatility, you can put spinach into anything...

Set yourself up for success this Holiday Season!

With summer and sun behind us, it is now time to look forward to the family dinners, office parties, and late nights with friends. Do yourself a favor and prepare to get the most out of the holiday season, without all the guilt next year. Here are a few occasions that you might see coming and ways to get the most out of them.

Thanksgiving Dinner/Family Dinner:
• Eat slowly! One of the best ways to prevent over eating is to simply slow down. Enjoy the food and company, take your time.
• Use small plates! When you shrink down the size of your food delivery system, you will also eat slower and potentially less. You can always go back for seconds.
• Plan for leftovers! Enjoy the meal in the moment and know that you can always take-home leftovers for another meal the next day. Just because it is in front of you, does not mean you must finish it.

Holiday Parties/Cocktail Parties:
• BYOB! Bring your own beverage! Whatever the occasion, plan to bring your own drink to share. Make it a goal to only consume the beverage that you selected to bring, this will help you from trying the endless numbers of other drink options. If you see a drink that looks great, ask for the recipe and try it another day.
• Water down between! If you are having more than one drink, have a glass of water between. This will slow down your consumption and help you stay slightly more hydrated.
• Eat before you go! Having dinner before you head to a party will help curb your munchies. There will most likely be snacks and all sorts of food, but if you eat before, you could potentially cut back on the mindless snacking.

Halloween is a scary time!

Yes, it is that time again! Ghosts, ghouls, goblins, and terrible gut pain from eating the kids candy. I am not going to say anything about eating candy, or not eating candy because you should be allowed to have some if you choose to do that. What I do want to share are several ways of getting rid of your extra holiday candy, and feeling good doing it. I believe that moderation is the key to living a healthy and balanced life. It would be very challenging to go into the holiday season with the hope of never eating anything unhealthy. So instead of setting yourself up for potential failure, plan to eat or keep a small amount of the sweets and donating the rest.

Below are two organizations that will take your donated candy and ship it to our service members all around the world.

1. Operation Gratitude

Performing some Kettlebell Halos! Having a history of shoulder injuries and surgeries, I take shoulder health pretty seriously. The Halo is great as a warm-up/mobility move, and I really like to program it between “heavier” strength movements. Doing this from a Full (or Tall) kneeling position is a great way to ensure your core is activated and the shoulders are getting the most out of it. Start light and give it a try!

New Wisdom from G2Health:

“Why Everyone Needs Core Training” by Stuart McGill, PhD

G2Health Summary:
For lack of a better term, the word “core” has grown in popularity in the fitness world. The idea of the core takes a very complex system of muscles and connective tissues and gives it a simple term. Deep internal muscles work hand in hand with the showier “six-pack” abdominal muscles, obliques, and erector spinae (to name a few) to accomplish numerous tasks. The core of our human structure needs to be looked at in a 3D perspective...FULL SUMMARY ONLINE, LINK IN OUR BIO!

Training Takeaway:

Give your core more!
The ultimate challenge to an athlete is the take this “core stiffness” to dynamic movement on the field or court. Adding dynamic elements to a training plan can help. Weighted carries, in all different planes is a great way to challenge an athlete’s ability to maintain core stiffness when performing a task.

Examples: Farmer walk, suitcase carry, waiter, overhead, zercher, barbell, kettlebell, sandbag, the possibilities are endless.

Add an extra set of carries to your next training day. Grip strength, as well as general fitness will also improve.

Performing her ACL rehab single leg target squats. Giving yourself a target will help you sit back and prevent any excessive range of motion. This also goes to show that you do not need any fancy equipment to improve your strength and conditioning, all you need is hard work and a little creativity. Enjoy the journey!

26/09/2018

Performing some BOSU Push-ups to challenge her stability and strength simultaneously. I really like variety when it comes to programming push-ups. I believe that a subtle change to any exercise can really bring great results, challenge weak points, and keep the workouts fun. Now get out there and try something different in your next workout.

19/09/2018

Performing some Birddogs. I cannot showcase this amazing movement enough. It can be performed by all athletes (yes, that’s YOU!) at any point in their training. Make sure you maintain a neutral spine while bracing your core, finishing with the hardest squeeze of your glute and fist. In the words of the great Dr. Stuart McGill, “if you aren’t sweating after a set of birddogs, you didn’t do a birddog!” Add it to your weekly/daily routine, sets of 10 with :03 second squeeze at the top!

12/09/2018

Getting back into the weight room. This athlete has had one heck of a journey. Minor setbacks to arguably “devastating” injuries, it is amazing to see what someone’s mind can accomplish. Back in early June Diamara had already hit a season best and was going for a personal record, a small catch of her toe on the track and her ACL tore. Not letting anything get in her way she has undergone surgery, rehab, and is now back in action building her strength. The only thing more impressive than her physical strength is her mental determination.
Takeaway: Do not let anything get in the way of your dreams!

Performing some Seal Rows using a multi-handle bar. Any variation to prone rows are a great way to strengthen your mid-back while saving the stress to your lower back. Having trouble keeping your chest up in squats and/or deadlifts? This strength movement should find a place in your next phase. Hold at the top for :03 and watch your size, strength, and hair grow!
