Project Edelweiss
The objective is to experience high mountain trips in period conditions. NOT POLITICAL We reenact a high-mountain trip of Austrian and German mountain troops.
The Project Edelweiss initiative has been promoting a quality reenactment approach to pay – with respect – a tribute to all Gebirgsjägers. The context of Project Edelweiss is the starting times of the Heereshochgebirgsschule, created in November 1939. Within the context of a “Schule”, the Project Edelweiss participants can represent different mountain regiments or companies. Of course, all these units must exist in 1939.
If you’ve been considering an unforgettable alpine adventure, there’s still time to apply for Project Edelweiss 2025! Due to high interest, we’re excited to extend the application deadline until December 1st. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us on a unique journey through the peak, challenges, and camaraderie that only the mountains can provide.
Don’t miss out on this chance to be part of an inspiring community and an adventure like no other !

📷🎞 Here is the superb job done by Manu with his Leica. The result is simply fantastic! This is our conception of reenactment. It is an activity in which we can have different definitions… we have ours, and we have made it concrete through the Project Edelweiss editions. We do not pretend to represent the Gebirgsjägers from the 1930s. We experience period climbing, in high altitudes, with the same equipment, environment, and alpine challenges. As for us, it is the best way to pay these exceptional mountaineers an honor and get a better idea of the specific period climbing conditions.
Bergheil!
We are beyond thrilled to announce that Franz has officially qualified as "Heeresbergführer for Project Edelweiss" during our latest event!
Active modern alpinist, Franz has consistently demonstrated outstanding sportive and climbing skills throughout our previous trips, making him an invaluable asset to our team. His dedication, strength, and expertise in the mountains are truly inspiring.
Hurra! Hurra! Hurra! 🎉🎉🎉🍻
The 10th edition of Project Edelweiss started with a hike, leading us to find a perfect bivouac spot near the glacier. We set up camp and conducted some alpine training to ensure everyone was prepared for the summit attempt. The sunset was stunning, providing a brief moment of tranquility before a short and cold night.
We woke up at 02:30, and by 03:00, we were climbing in the dark. The glacier was silent in the early morning darkness. At around 07:30, we reached the summit, standing over 4000 meters above sea level. After a short break, we began our descent, carefully navigating through the glacier's crevasses and ridges.
It was a challenging but unforgettable journey, showcasing the determination and camaraderie of our team.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire team of the 10th edition of Project Edelweiss. Your dedication in preparation, commitment to quality, tireless effort, and unwavering motivation made this journey not only possible but truly memorable.
Your esprit de corps was evident every step of the way, from setting up camp near the glacier to conquering the summit together. Each one of you contributed to the success of this adventure, demonstrating remarkable teamwork and perseverance.
Thank you for your hard work, enthusiasm, and the incredible support you showed one another. This experience has been extraordinary, and it’s all because of you.
BergHeil !

Hard times make timeless souvenirs and build camaraderie! Here are some photos from a memorable night, facing a July snowstorm... Project Edelweiss is not only about nice reenactment pictures, but it is what you bring back home in your heart and mind: a unique experience.
Here are some fantastic pictures from Adam Šolc with his Kodak Retina II Typ 142 🥰
Time for the next step!
A specially tailored 10th edition with a small team is scheduled for early July 2024, with a summit over 4000 meters in altitude. Participant selection for this edition will be done, aimed at optimizing our team's success. We are particularly interested in applications from previous PE participants with significant mountain experience.
The coordination of this 10th edition will be in collaboration with the esteemed association Vojensko-historický klub Enzian z.s. which has been a steadfast supporter of Project Edelweiss since 2012.
Dear Members, Dear Friends, Dear Supporters,
It has been quite some time! I am glad to share our plans for the upcoming two editions in 2024 and 2025.
A grand edition is on the horizon for July 2025 in Switzerland, with invaluable support from the Association Alsacemilitaria, as key partner. This edition promises to be monumental, accommodating over 50 participants. It will feature a smooth itinerary, glacier training, mountain bivouacs, and an achievable summit objective.
In the meantime, a specially tailored 10th edition with fewer participants is scheduled for early July 2024, with a summit over 4000 meters in altitude. Participant selection for this edition will be done, aimed at optimizing our team's success. We are particularly interested in applications from previous PE participants with significant mountain experience.
Here are some picture of the expected plan for 2024, hope to build a dream team for this superb coming challenge.
More info to come in October for the registrations 2024.
Stay tuned!
BergHeil !

The Project Edelweiss Team wishes you a wonderful Christmas and an happy new year ! 2023 will be a long preparation year before our next adventure. Take care, keep training and Bergheil!!! 🙌
Dear Friends, Dear Supporters, Dear all,
I hope you are doing good. I would like to thank you all for your interactions, questions, interest for the coming edition of Project Edelweiss.
Every 2 years, we look forward to connecting with our global community and sharing our vision for 1940s Gebirgsjäger reenactment. My primary concern is always to provide to the participants an unique experience and a high quality event.
For the coming year, I will have on private side critical challenges to face and will not be able to dedicate proper time to the coordination of a 2023 edition. After few weeks, I ended up with the decision to delay the coming edition. I know that this will come as an enormous disappointment, this is not a decision I have taken lightly.
We will take the proper time to organize and execute the 10th anniversary edition 🙏
Thank you for your trust, support and friendship.
Take care,
Bruno
Chapter 8 "Way back"
Closing chapter of Project Edelweiss 2021 - after 3 days and 2 nights over 3'000m/alt all the participants were walking down the valley to reach our green camping place. The faces are marked by the altitude sun and the heads are full of souvenirs. This edition was full of surprises and experiences.
Once again, few days were enough to create this exceptional "esprit de corps" closing the gap between ages, nationalities, status, all together to achieve a common challenge and make a unique true experience in high altitude. Months later, the superbe vibes of this edition are still in the air...
A huge thanks for all the 2021 participants for their serious approach, quality, preparation and spirit.
Hope to see this dream team again in 2023 and welcome new motivated bergkameraden !
Bergheil,
Bruno
