Designing inspiring outdoor spaces in Gods own county. I am passionate about gardens.
I think that everyone should have a garden which speaks to them, their family and their lifestyle.
Sunlight study ☀️ 8am ➡️ 11am ➡️ 2pm ➡️ 5pm
Modelling how the sunlight moves through our designs with the help of technology helps clients to understand what natural light they can expect in each part of their garden design. This useful information can help to determine whether seating areas are in the best spots to make the most of sun/shade and also helps us perfectly understand how many hours of sunlight any given planting area will receive. 🕶️🌴

One of my most used and useful plants: Salvia nemorosa Caradonna. Loved by the bees and loved by me. 💜🐝
Very excited for this project to break ground in the next few weeks. These are some of the visuals for the landscape design I’ve produced showing the upper garden which includes an upper dining terrace and outdoor kitchen as well as a lower terrace for more relaxed seating around a fire pit. Updates to come!🌲🪨⚒️🧱🔥
I love using natural stone boulders. In the right setting I think they bring so much dimension to a garden. Year-round interest and structure they offer contrast to planting but also paving with their more natural form. With some careful plant choices they can be tucked in and hugged by the surrounding foliage to look like they’ve been there since the beginning of time. I especially love how this one in particular at a project in York keeps a tiny pool of rainwater long after everything else is dry. 🪨🌧️🌾
One of the areas in our latest design. A harmonious blend of elements that bring the beauty of nature to life. A fire pit perfect for summer evenings sat out by the lake with fabulous company. Sun beds invite one to sprawl out on the sunniest of days whilst the kids play on the lake shore. To be crafted with natural stone and materials carefully selected to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding natural landscape. Swipe to check out the incredible view you get in this spot!😍🔥🌿☀️
Planning and planting spring bulbs is an act of faith and an exercise in imagination. For me, it’s one of my favourite aspects of planting design, as the long dark winter months diminish and this spectacular display of colour and life heralds the coming of spring and summer. 🌷🪻
Spring bulb planning needs to start at least six months before we get to enjoy these beauties. The most sought-after bulbs do sell out early in the autumn and so if you want to create a magical spring border it really does take preparation.
In my opinion you can’t overdo it with tulips. Plant heavily in big drifts to create swathes of impactful colour. Large drifts of one variety are bold and beautiful but I’m a big fan of blends. You can purchase blends put together for you by the retailer or you can put them together yourself.
Of course it’s important to think about how the colours will work together but don’t forget to also think about the bloom time, shape and form and overall height of the stem.
This tulip blend is my favourite this year and consists of:
Spring Green
White Triumphator
Angelique
Pink Impression
Standing out on a cold (and often wet) November day with hundreds of bulbs to plant and nothing to immediately show for it is not my favourite job… but when this appears as if by magic in spring - I love last-year me!!😍🌿🌷
Loving receiving photos from various past clients showing off their spring displays.🌷🪻🌿
Cannot wait for some of this weather! When it comes I imagine this space we finished last year will be a pretty good spot to enjoy it.☀️👙🍸

Happy Valentine’s Day! 🌹

Blurring the lines between real and CGI to show my clients the awesome possibilities. What better opportunity than a view a few yards from York Minster? 🪟🌿🏛️📸
This is one of three outdoor spaces on this beautiful and fascinating grade II listed townhouse I am currently working on and loving. It has so much history and character held within its walls and in times gone by housed members of the clergy for the magnificent York Minster. ⚱️💡
We are going to be respectfully and carefully incorporating some contemporary design in to this space, installing the next chapter of its fabulous story. It’s a pleasure to be trusted with such a meaningful job. 🥰
Always a pleasure to be working with again. Can’t wait to see them work their magic inside 🪄🛋️
I just love old properties and letting my mind go wild imagining all of the life events that have taken place inside. 💫💭
In gardens, the nepeta does grow,
A perennial workhorse, don’t you know!
With blooms that attract,
It’s a pollinator’s act,
This plant brings a delightful show! 🌿💜
Nepeta adorning the sandstone raised beds surrounding the awesome heated outdoor swimming pool at . One of my favourite perennials - it’s a hit with the pollinators and if cut back after its first flush of blooms will almost certainly bloom again! 👙👒🧖🏻♀️
Now obviously well designed lighting makes your garden look even more beautiful and for much longer in the day, but even better if the fixtures are beautiful too! 💡⚡️✨
We recently designed a functional and beautiful lighting scheme for using these gorgeous fixtures, with the help of the fantastic .
I love the delicate “Twig” light we have dotted through some of the borders and I think it’s safe to say and I are obsessed with the cutest “Mouse” wall light in solid copper. 😍🐭
Christmas is over… which means I’m already obsessing over the coming growing season and the awesome projects we’ll bring to life this year! 🌱🪄
What ideas do you have for your outdoor spaces this year? It’s never too early to start planning! 💭💡🖊️📐

Soaking in some fabulous winter interest at Hall and Gardens on a boxing Day stroll. 🌲🌾🍁
The garden might be the last thing on your mind right now but it’s a fantastic time to take stock of your garden and do some thinking. 🤔
What is shining in the garden right now when many plants are dormant?
Do you need more structure (evergreen, hard landscaping, pots etc)?
Are there any perennials with interesting seed heads you can leave until spring?
Could you benefit from some outdoor lighting on these short days?
Could you add some winter containers to bring some colour to the winter garden?
Could you add more shrubs or trees with interesting stem colour or texture for winter interest?
It’s time for 2024 planning! 💭✨🌲
Finishing off 2023 with this design which will bridge the gap between a fabulous extension with beautiful glass looking out on countryside views and a tricky sloping and pretty plain lawn with nowhere to sit! 🤔💡
Swipe to see what it looks like now! ➡️
Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and can’t wait to show you the projects on the drawing board and coming to life in 2024! ✏️
A recent concept design for various garden spaces on one property. Different spots for different occasions. 🍸🍽️☕️🔥
Earlier this year I had the pleasure of helping my dear friend and talented interior designer bring some outdoor colour and flair to her showroom install at on Kings Road in their London store. 🧡💙💚
Lauren has transformed the showroom using her creative magic and the new CF collection in collaboration with . She wanted to allow some of the whimsy to spill out of the door and on to the street, allowing the artistic journey to start on the outside. I am a strong believer that the outside and the inside should always be in conversation, so when she asked for my help - I was thrilled!
The install took place in September which is a tricky time to put together a container design that has instant impact, low maintenance AND longevity!
I used Liriope muscari, Helleborus niger and Santolina chamaecyparissus for varied form, texture and colour in the evergreen department. The Liriope and Helleborus will also bloom in these cooler months providing prolonged interest throughout the season.
For some bold and fiery colour to compliment Lauren’s beautiful scheme and the Kit Kemp prints, I added some show-stopping Echinacea, Kniphofia, Japanese anemones and Erigeron karvinskianus. Knowing that the showroom is based in central London and will likely get no frost in its sheltered location, I knew these would be a good bet for a long show planted early September.
Head to grid to check out the delightful interior of the showroom this planting scheme was designed to complement!
Thoughtful lighting pointing out the beautiful features in this garden right in to these dark winter nights. This solid sandstone bench was the perfect statement for this spot, encouraging passing wanderers to pause and take in the surroundings. The spherical form in its design echoes the surrounding Ilex Crenata domes, punctuating the garden with evergreen structure all year. ✨🌳🌙

One week, working on two totally different projects. Here's a perfect example of why when people ask me "what's your style?" | say "I don't really have just one!" ☯️
My view is that every project will take on its own style informed by many things... Existing architecture, client lifestyle and aesthetic preference, geographical location, local materials, historical significance and so much more. 🧱🏛️🌎
First, a structure to be used for dining and relaxing in very formal gardens, influenced by generations of garden design in the surrounding property and gardens using similar architectural features.
Second, a sloped new build family garden in need of some simple style and functionality.
Variety is the spice of life! 🤌🏼

Thrilled to give you a glimpse in to the restaurant orangery and gardens beyond at a recently completed hotel project . 🍃
Can’t wait to visit and show you more of the work we’ve done outside. 🌿💜🌼
Incredible interiors by the wonderful ⭐️😍
Bespoke container install today. The perfect blue sky to match these troughs in their new home on this roof terrace. 💙💜

Updates from Edinburgh ☀️🌿🏴
Great to see the garden in glorious sunshine and prefect for lounging on their new clay paver sun bed patio. 🛎️🍸
The aluminium pergola is another fabulous feature in the heat, with the option to have the louvred roof shutters open or closed and concealed side shades up or down for the perfect combination of shade on the decking. 🌞👙🍹
Planting is starting to fill out beautifully, decorating the new cedar fencing and soon enough the custom made metal planter hugging the patio will boast a lush bamboo hedge bringing added privacy to the space. Below, the ground cover style planting is doing just what I wanted it to do, and starting to spill over the edges.🌾
(Please be careful with bamboo if it isn’t contained - it’s beautiful but it’s a brute… you have been warned!)🎍
