This team combined a love of engineering and baking to create a machine to slice cake! 🍰

Our Chief Innovation Officer, Ashley Soifer, kicked off the Harvard Kennedy School Emerging School Models Conference yesterday, driving the conversation on the growing microschool movement, sharing data on what prospective microschool founders need and want, the families current microschools are serving, and what barriers were in the way that caused microschools to shut down or never open.

Kathryn, our Director of Microschool Leadership Development and Supports, is having a blast talking microschools and National School Choice Week in Chicago!

August and September are busy months for microschools starting across the country. For some parents, there is the excitement of returning to a much-loved community. For parents choosing a microschool for the first time, it can feel a little scary. We love this advice from The Learning Outpost founder, Felicia Wright. Parents, you do know what is best for your children!

One of the many great things about microschooling is that there are so many different options. In microschooling, everyone is welcome. To those parents choosing a microschool for the first time, we echo Felicia in saying, “Be brave” and we add, welcome to this supportive community! Happy microschooling!

Here at the Center, we are a team of microschooling parents. As we are getting ready for our kids to start back to microschooling (some next week!), we are looking forward to the excitement and sheer joy that our kids experience throughout the year!

As a military spouse, Grant saw the same learning issues across the different states where she taught.

“One day I was just like, ‘I need to be out of this,’” she said.

While her family was planning the relocation, Grant began researching online search terms such as “how to quit public school teaching” and where former educators were going.

“They [public schools] differentiate really by a student’s age,” she said, “and I find that to be of a major concern because it is limiting our children who can do so much more.”

In this way, she learned about microschools – a place where natural, joyful learning occurs outside state regulations and specifications, she said.
