Jenson's Giant Leap
Jenson has Cerebral Palsy and is having an operation which we hope will help him to walk independently. We need to fundraise for the post op physio
The lady who started & runs the football club that Jenson plays for is up for the Unsung Hero Award tonight on BBC Sports Personality. Keeping our fingers crossed for her š¤š»

Little Jenson update. Been so impressed with his stamina & determination recently. He decided he wanted to walk to the top of Teds (my horses) field. It is a long way & a steep slope. He fell over a fair few times but he made it, with a little help from his brother who held his hand to help him up the last bit. š¤©
Itās 2 years since Jenson had SDR. He is still working hard at physio. 7 physio / training sessions this week, 1 hospital appointment (with physios at GOSH so basically another physio session), played football 3 times. Worked super hard in every session and that hard work has paid off today. He has been working on stopping & balance this week. He also decided he didnāt need his frame to play football today š³š„³Smashed it!!
I know 2020 hasnāt been great but the progress Jenson has made this year has been amazing. This time last year he wasnāt walking independently at all. The first video was taken around Feb time and the second today playing in the garden moving logs to build a den (why they wanted to play in the garden when it barely got over freezing all day? š)
He is still working hard, getting stronger all the time and making progress what will he be doing next year??
This is exactly why we put Jenson through 5hrs of surgery on his spine. Begged our friends for financial help to cover the rehab & keep up that demanding rehab almost every day.
Whatās better than playing in a water sprinkler with your brother in this weather. āļø
Jenson learnt to get on and off his bike by himself today. SDR is about so much more than learning to walk.
This time last year Jenson has his SDR surgery & thanks to all your support has been able to have huge input from physios & trainers to get to where we are today.
Hope you are keeping well in these strange times x
Look who is walking about the house now with no sticks or walker!!
This is how Jenson gets about the house now.
We spent half term at physio everyday on an intensive course and this is what we achieved. Jenson worked so hard he was exhausted afterwards. He is not even a year post op yet goodness knows how much more this determined little chap can achieve but we are very excited to find out.
None of this would have been possible without your kind generosity and we will be eternally grateful x
This may not look like a particularly interesting photo but pre SDR half kneeling like this was a physio exercise we used to do. I hated it as I had to push, shove, pull and hold him to get him to stay in this position as his muscles were so tight. I was almost more exhausted than Jenson afterwards. Here he is, in this position, all by himself, so he can get a bowl out of the cupboard.
Progress!
We have waited 4 years for this moment. It's not pretty & still needs a lot of work but it proves that the independent walking that we dreamed this operation would bring is a possibility. It has taken a lot of hard work at physio from Jenson but that wouldnt have been possible without your generosity. There are no words to explain how grateful we are but I think Jensons face shows just how pleased he is.
The last few months have been so busy with various physio sessions but I think we are getting there. It has been so tough as really functionally Jenson has gone backwards, as was to be expected after the op. GOSH said 6 months to get back to pre op strength & stamina but I think we are pretty much there now. We went to buy school shoes today and Jenson walked almost all the way around the shops himself. And then went to the pool for a hydro session šŖš»
A few photos of physio this week.
I know I havenāt posted for ages, we have been a bit busy & progress is slow with Jenson (which is to be expected) but took this photo tonight. I think itās the first time he has got both feet flat on the floor ever, it was quite hard for him to get the right foot flat but the left is pretty much always flat now since his
surgery. With lots of physio & hard work from Jenson & thanks to all of you for making it possible. It looks like the right foot is heading the same way. The second photo shows how he used to stand before the op.
Lovely afternoon with this crazy bunch. So grateful to have met such a kind, generous & welcoming group of people. Thank you for all you have done for Jensonās fundraising.
Hopefully see you all soon x
A quick fundraising update as it all went a bit mental. So while we were in hospital we hit our target of Ā£30,000 which is just mind blowing in itself, and what fantastic timing. However we knew there were a few ongoing events and as we are fundraising through a charity we had to raise our target. As Jenson will need physio for the rest of his life the extra funds will mean that we can keep up the intensive physio for longer and help him get through growth spurts in the future. But I forgot to get a screen grab of it at 100% to put on a post here which I was a bit gutted about. Then we suddenly got an amazing Ā£4000 donation from Shanly Homes. Therefore reaching our new target about a week later, and meaning I am going to have to increase it again.
I never believed we could reach the Ā£30,000 let alone beat it. So thatās it. Thank you a million times over for your support. I canāt believe we have done it. It is so wonderful to know that we can give Jenson all the support he is going to need over the next few years to achieve his goal of 'Walking like Austin' š¤
Well done Gus for completing the London Marathon today. He ran it in 4hr. 35min and has raised Ā£1000 so far for Jenson!! Amazing thank you so much. So glad we got to see you. Hope your legs recover soon x
Just standing around!! ššš»š
Unbelievable how tall and straight Jenson is standing here itās not even been 2 weeks since the op. And he is standing on his own!!
Sorry for all the posts but itās exciting times for us. This photo may not look that exciting but itās the first evidence of how amazing the surgery Jenson has had is. There is no way he would have been able to do this before. He would have barely got his foot near his knee. And whatās more this was easy š„³
Recovering well. So proud of him. He is a tough cookie.
Jenson is in theatre now. Finding it hard to believe it is actually happening. He has been super good just canāt wait for him to come out & know that he is ok.
Sorry it has taken me so long to do the maths but I now have a total for last weeks fundraising event 'Jenson's Big Night Out' It is a staggering Ā£3062.13 and takes us to just over Ā£1000 short of our Ā£30,000 target.
We have another event tomorrow so that is us done with fundraising. Thank you so much I never believed we would get there at all, let alone before the operation day.
This time next week Jenson's operation will have happened and the hard work will start for him, putting to good use the money raised. I will keep everyone updated with his progress.
Enormous thank you to all who came to Jensonās Big Night Out on Sat. I think everyone had a good time? The Black Sheep of Penn were fantastic. The Yr11ās & ex students who gave up their Sat evening to help were amazing. All my friends and family who helped. What a night š„³
I still havenāt worked out what we made yet but itās looking good so far šš»
Any photos please share x

Thanks to everyone of course, but special mention to the Montessori nursery that raised over Ā£2000 in fundraising events, and Emily Taylor (daughter of the mad man cycling 500 miles in Feb for Jenson) who spoke in her assembly at school about our fundraising campaign.

Lastly we are off to Great Ormond St on Fri for Jensonās pre op assessment and his op is booked for April so getting real now. First session tomorrow with the physio who will be working with Jenson twice a week after his op. This wouldnāt be possible without all your help so thank you š

Some long overdue Thank yous with some amazing fundraising going on so...
Neil Taylor is cycling 500 miles in Feb all in aid of Jenson. He has been out in all the horrible weather we have had this month and has raised nearly Ā£900 so far.
Next is Seetal Tank who is running 10 10kās again in this horrible Feb weather and raised a fantastic Ā£700 so far.
Lastly a big Thank you to Sir William Borlaseās school that has raised over Ā£2500 in various events from m***i days, cake & egg sales.
Huge thank you to everyone who has donated. I really cannot express how much we appreciate it š
So everything is confirmed for 'Jenson's Big Night Out' 30th March at Sir William Ramsay School in Hazlemere at 7pm The Black Sheep of Penn will be playing so plenty of dancing to be done!
Would be lovely to see so many of you there and also raise money for Jenson's physio.
We are selling tickets by the table. 8 people to a table Ā£120 per table.
Please message me if you would like to reserve a table.
So 2018 hasnāt been the best year but I am going to have to forgive it for this moment alone. I cannot explain how lovely it is for Jenson to not reach another birthday without having taken his first steps. It is very early days but this gives us such hope for what may be possible after his operation next year.
Massive well done to Christine & the R Crazy Play team for completing the Santa Fun Run on Sun. They were raising funds for Jenson again. Thank you so much x
We were very lucky to meet Worshipful Brother Tom Davies on Sat who presented us with a cheque on behalf of the Freemasons of Buckinghamshire for Ā£1000. He was such a kind lovely man who raises lots of money for a wide range of causes. Thank you to Barry Sparks for letting him know about our campaign.
