⚠️𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐁𝐄𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐄: 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐜_𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝 - 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞⚠️

Yesterday afternoon, I received a message from a William Micheal asking if I'm available to make a commissioned artwork. I got excited especially that the subject will be his daughter (what a fatherly love - more meaningful now that I have my own daughter).

Yes we are in need, right timing pa nga ang blessing sana, but it was a lesson in disguise pala.

Here's the exciting part.

Modus: Minamadali nila ang pagbayad "I'll send it now", at minamadali kang tingnan ang email mo. Kailangan pa daw magbayad ng additional payment ni Sender kasi ON HOLD ang payment kay Paypal para mabuo yung requirement daw ni PayPal for Business Account kasi may limit lang daw yung account and also to receive the amount they sent. Then.... aba siyempre ibabalik namin yung additional payment (which is $300) plus yung painting na pinapagawa. Mautak din, gagawan na nga sila ni artist ng painting, bibigyan pa sila ng bonus. Buti na lang di na namin pinatulan yung email niya, abunado pa tayo.

Well, unfortunately for them, we knew something was wrong. Napaka obvious naman kasi.😅

✖️ Initially, nakakapagtaka kasi parang not real account. We checked pero hindi masearch sa FB until we got their FB link at kapapalit lang ng profile picture 5 days ago. Walang friends or posts (possibly naka hide pero masyadong obvious na walang update hahaha)

✖️ Magtaka kana, "fell in love with your art work" pero walang reaction sa mga posts, not even a follower (secret admirer lang? 🤫)

✖️ Our page responded in tagalog, at aba nakakaintindi pala kasi nagreply. From US pero bakit parang may mali sa English niya (ay, judgemental agad)

✖️ Without us sending the payment terms, aba ang bilis at gustong magbayad agad. Makakniknin ya ha, which is not a usual agreement sa ganung amount ($700). We said na possible sa Payoneer or PayPal, they opt for PayPal.

✖️ They asked for our PayPal details. We sent the Name and the Link which will lead them directly to the payment page... But they said hindi raw masearch. Aba, gusto lang palang makuha ang email address. So yes, para mapanatag sila we sent it, but we are already doubtful na.

✖️ Nadeduct na daw sa account niya pero walang proof of Transaction maski ng payment history.

✖️ Mapilit sila na icheck sa email, aba at ayaw nila magsend ng screenshot ng payment, nag edit pa pala... Nasa Spam daw nila tapos nawala?? Pero icheck ko daw yung Spam Folder ko kasi nandun daw yung email (at sure talaga siya na nandun ha) Hahaha! Refreshed multiple times pero walang changes sa Paypal Balance.

LESSONS
1. Paypal Users: only give your link (do not give your email address and full name/ PayPal will send a notification to your linked email, no need to send them.)
The kind hearted that we are, binigyan natin ng details for them to ensure na hindi ihohold ang money nila and that they will get what they paid for.

2. In a Hurry! If there is a sense of urgency, magtaka ka na! Blah blah blah because that will compromise your account status.. so they give warning that you should do this and that. Never ever do what they say. Now, go back to your PayPal account and check kung meron bang update kasabay ng email nila, kung wala, just DISREGARD. This is because they can only send emails, not update your PayPal account from their end.

3. Kahit naka HOLD ang payment, may lalabas sa account mo under status na naka hold or pending, Paypal will first inform you na may pumasok sa account mo bago mag pending (depending on your account status).

4. If it's too good to be true, it's not true (although this commission is possible, napaka bilis nila magbayad without verifying kung masesend ba agad yung pinapagawa nila, sila din nagsabi ng amount na ibabayad nila without considering the size and details of the artwork first hahaha)

5.Check Email Address:
5.1. Email used to send reference picture ay obviously not real, di man lang nagimbento ng real name (even sent kids pics pangmodus, sayang ang ganda sana ng idea ng artist)
5.2. Check email source (if it's not [email protected] magtaka ka na) we checked further, aba GMAIL ang gamit, hahaha! The inconsistency ha, ito yung gamit nila:
👉 ( [email protected] • [email protected] )
5.3. "bcc" - Paypal does not include this (as per previous email transactions, walang bcc kay Paypal. Nagtaka na kami, lol!) Ingat na lang baka pag magreply ka manotify yung mga naka bcc and so on (tracking purposes, etc.)
5.4. Spam Folder - I have never encountered Paypal emails to go directly to Spam Folder. Tried sending an amount (PayPal to PayLal) after a few minutes of receiving their email, nasa INBOX po at wala sa SPAM, not the same as their email address.

6. Small Details Matter - Basic Grammar and Info Check
Phishing messages are most likely poorly written.
6.1. Incorrect spellings/misspellings
6.2. Spacing
6.3. Typos/Incorrect Grammar
6.4. Non-CLICKABLE links (in blue color), compared with the original from real PayPal - they forgot this, naka black pa sakanila. But NEVER click on their links .

7. Always Ask for a Proof of Successful Payment
Nagsend sila pero nasa step 1 pa lang. Anyone can do this. Don't get fooled. You can always try to send para macheck yung step by step process of sending with PayPal. Kung hindi naabutan ang successful payment, they can always check yung Transaction History. But they sent a f@ke email instead to us.

8. Create Your Own Payment Terms
Do not let them decide for the initial price, know your work's value. For commissioned artworks, you may ask for 50% down payment first, and agree with the duration until the item is delivered.

9. Trust Your Gut - You always want to give yourself "the benefit of the doubt" but never underestimate the power of your gut instinct. Madalas totoo yan.

And so much more... But this is just the summary. This post will be updated if necessary.

And mind you Mr. William Micheal or whoever is behind this that it is not our first time to transact using PayPal, you messed up with the wrong guy. We hope you find your peace and real joy in life as I find mine in making artworks for clients who appreciate my work. These clients see the real value that I put into every piece I create.
