[9.7.1809]
At the battle of Wagram we reached our next victory in the name of France. Short time after, we marched north, to Moravia. There we stopped near the town of Znaim. We were sent orders to reconnaissance ahead but we’ve met with cavalry and those bloody Austrian Jägers. They started shooting at us from the woods with precision shooting, those devils. My friend Joachim Duval was injured during this fight. Resistance wasn’t strong but I have a weird feeling that something big is close. You just don’t meet Austrian Jägers in the woods by accident.

Si vis pacem, para bellum
old Latin saying: If you want peace prepare for war. One of the most important thing you will hear when you first join military engineering school. When I first joined the École d'Application de l'Artillerie de Metz in 1796 in Paris and I heard that for a first time I didn't understand those words. Only by long walks and marching I found the true meaning of those words and how to apply them in life.
