On our way from a condolence visit to Owukpa, we had a brief stop at Orokam to have a taste of freshly-made akara. It is the best I have had in a long time so I made sure that we got some for my other team members. Parliament is about the people and their way of life.

Good day my people. I bring you good tidings from South Africa. Yesterday, I was nominated and confirmed as the Health Rapporteur, Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Committee on Health. I was nominated by the West African caucus.

I want to specially acknowledge my fellow West African parliamentarians for their show of camaraderie and brotherhood. May I also use this opportunity to appreciate the Rt Hon Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D for considering me worthy to be a part of the PAP in the first instance. This is a big win for Nigeria and West Africa. I wonโ€™t let you down. Congratulations to us all๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Earlier today, I was inaugurated as a member of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) in Midrand, South Africa courtesy of the Rt. Hon Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D who nominated me as part of our country's delegation to the continental body of parliamentarians working with the African Union.

I was thrilled to meet like-minds from other nations who share the same drive for Africa's economic development and integration. From our interactions already, I have noticed how rich and gifted the continent is in terms of human resources.

I'm, therefore, confident that together we will address some of the problems and challenges facing Africa ranging from civil strife and insecurity to climate change-induced hunger. We have already made significant inroads to positively impact our nations and people directly. One Africa, One Voice!

Agbese Hosts Benue APC Chairman, Leaders, Reassures Party of Loyalty

The honourable member representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, Chief (Dr) Philip Agbese, Thursday, played host to the Benue State All Progressive Congress (APC) chairman, Comrade Austin Agada and other party leaders in his office in Abuja.

The APC stalwarts, who were on a working visit to the National Assembly, started their tour from the office of the Enone Servant.

In his address, Hon. Agbese described Comrade Agada as one of the best party chairmen in Nigeria, one who is the envy of others.

He said the partyโ€™s success at the last elections was down to the efforts of Agada and other party leaders who made significant sacrifices for the good of the people.

Agbese likened Agada to Ken Saro-Wiwa who was persecuted for standing on the side of the truth and his people.

As the activist said before his ex*****on by the military regime of Gen Sani Abacha, Agbese asked โ€˜Must we always kill our bestโ€™?

He, therefore, reiterated his support and loyalty to the party leadership under the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume and Comrade Agada.

On his part, Agada described Agbese as the shining light of the 10th House of Representatives who has done well in his primary assignment.

The APC chairman said the choice of the Enone Servantโ€™s office to begin the working visit was because of he represents his constituency.

Agada said he recognises the burden before the Deputy Spokesman and his corresponding actions so far to ease the suffering of his people.

He, therefore, assured Agbese of his total support and that of the party in his legislative endeavours.

Also in attendance were Bishop Pinot Ogbaji, APC vice chairman Zone C, Bernard Ochepa, former House of Reps member, Comrade Abba Yaro, the immediate past state chairman, the partyโ€™s financial secretary, publicity secretary and other senior party stakeholders.

Thrilled to announce that I have been named the Spokesperson of the House of Representatives' Committee on the Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended).

I will lead efforts to ensure the constitution review process is transparent, inclusive, and accessible to all stakeholders, and indeed, all Nigerians, in line with the ethos of the 10th Assembly.

The Committee is established under Section 62 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended) and Order 20 (30) of the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.

Categorised as a Standing Committee in the Green Chamber, it is charged with the responsibility of recommending the alteration of the 1999 Constitution and other Acts that require alteration by Sections 8 and 9 of the Constitution.

Its duties also include receiving and considering proposals (bills) for the Constitution alteration, as well as creating a forum for relevant stakeholders and members of the public to make inputs to the review process to enact laws that address the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people

Chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the Committee comprises one member from each of the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT. To ensure greater inclusion, the Committee has six (6) additional women representing each of the six geo-political zones, as well as the House Zonal Caucus Leaders, who are being co-opted in an advisory capacity to steer the Committee on issues relating to their respective zones.

FEBRUARY 25: A TIME OF SOBER REFLECTION, NOT MERRIMENT

February 25th is a very special day for me as it marks my birth anniversary. Every year, it affords me the opportunity for introspection and to express gratitude to God for the gift of life.

In as much as this is a thing of joy and many want it marked with pomp and pageantry, however, this year's celebration comes with an exception because of the inevitability of hardship, suffering and anguish in the country.

Of what use is a lavish celebration when Nigerians can barely feed? What is the essence of merriment with the elites when those who voted for me at the grassroots live in fear, hunger and toil?

I have never been one to indulge in such luxuries or extravagance. My political foray won't change that. Life is enjoyed more comfortably on the fringes of a community or social circle where social pressure is under wraps.

Ahead of this auspiciously personal day of mine, let me throw a quick disclaimer. In my characteristic modesty, I wish to mark this birthday in a restrained fashion without fanfare. This is a time of sober reflection.

On this note, therefore, I want to urge my friends, colleagues and associates to kindly channel their resources to their families, communities, constituents and the most vulnerable among us. Share my love with them.

Finally, the book of Ecclesiastes 7:3 says "Sorrow is better than laughter, because sober reflection is good for the heart." I will be taking this time to pray for our dear nation, myself and other leaders. I urge you all to do likewise.
