Title: Do's & Don'ts of Dizzy Disorders
Presenter: Jefferson Holm, PT, DPT, NCS

Topic: This lecture is designed to be an introductory course to vestibular rehabilitation. It will cover the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system, common diagnoses, and basic interventions. Physical therapists will have likely received this information in school, so this lecture will provide them with a good review of foundational knowledge for treatment. Physical therapist assistants will find this lecture topic especially useful if the vestibular system was not a large focus in their school curriculum. The goal of this talk is to provide an easily understandable overview of the vestibular system and vestibular rehabilitation for all in attendance.

Presenter Bio: Jefferson Holm is a native of Arizona. He attended Corona Del Sol High School in his youth and graduated from Arizona State University with is B.S. in Kinesiology. Jefferson received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of Pittsburgh. After graduation, Jefferson discovered his passion for treating individuals with neurologic dysfunction/disease. In 2015 Jefferson became a Board Certified Neuro Clinical Specialist. That same year, he also was certified as a vestibular rehabilitation specialist. Currently, Jefferson sees individuals with peripheral and central causes of vertigo regularly in his practice. Jefferson has served his professional organization as both a Delegate and District Representative.

The Arizona Delegation to the APTA House of Delegates is hosting a virtual Arizona Town Hall using ZOOM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. We need your help in determining the issues and concerns physical therapists and physical therapist assistants (members and nonmembers) are having in their practice that can be addressed by the House of Delegates and the national association. The participants will work in small groups for about one hour to determine the important topics, and then come together with the whole group to prioritize the topics.

As we prepare for the Town Hall, think of how we can improve physical therapy practice, make a better association, and impact society. You might want to network with colleagues on potential concepts. Look for an announcement right before the Town Hall on links to the session. In the meantime, you might want to network with colleagues for what we need to do to help physical therapy. Think about concepts that would help to improve physical therapy practice, help to improve the professional association, and help society. We are planning on repeating the town hall in February.

To help facilitate our planning, please email Jim Roush at jroush@atsu

Last month the AZPTA was able to hold a quorum and vote on proposed bylaw changes. See below as early professionals will have reduced rate for chapter dues!
The Early-Career Dues Discount program enables Early Professionals who maintain their membership through graduation to receive a 50% discount on APTA dues for the first year postgraduation, with additional savings the next three years:
– Second year postgraduation: 40% off national and participating chapter and section dues.
– Third year postgraduation: 30% off national and participating chapter and section dues.
– Fourth year postgraduation: 20% off national and participating chapter and section dues.
This Chapter Bylaw amendment will allow the Arizona Chapter to participate in additional membership dues programs in the future and only allows the Executive Board to participate in programs which offer reduced Chapter membership rates. –
