Jay Buckey, a NH public defender, is running for County Attorney. Sullivan County is the only county in NH without a drug court, which can offer alternatives by providing treatment for drug abuse and mental illness under strict court supervision, treating what caused the criminal behavior and thus leading to less recidivism and more safety for the community. Jay's platform includes focusing on establishing a drug court in Sullivan County; research supported innovations for pre-trial options and services, particularly for drug abuse and mental health; and focusing on the needs of victims of domestic and sexual violence with the goal of breaking generational cycles and improving the safety of victims, their families, and their communities.

STATEMENT: NH Federal Delegation Delivers Public Health Funds that Republican Executive Council Refuse
Concord, N.H. – Following today's announcement that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is awarding $500,000 directly to Planned Parenthood of Northern New England to ensure public health funds are delivered to family planning clinics in New Hampshire, Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington released the following statement:

“Today, our federal delegation stepped in to protect reproductive health care and family planning services when Governor Chris Sununu's Executive Council would not," said Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington. "We are so thankful to Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Maggie Hassan, Congresswoman Annie Kuster, and Congressman Chris Pappas for securing these funds to protect the provision of family planning services in our state."

This will provide health services where the Republican dominated Executive Council would not.

THIS IS LEADERSHIP AND DELIVERING FOR NH CITIZENS!!!!!

The way it should be to support a healthy democracy!

07/01/2022

For a state that prides itself on “doing things better in the 603,” it is incredibly disappointing that New Hampshire politicians are currently in a race to the bottom when it comes to reproductive rights.

Action Items - Speak Up!

1. Call Governor Sununu at (603) 271-2121 and voice your concerns. Tell him to lead with science and protect workers!

2. Reach out to local businesses - grocers, restaurants, and retail stores - that you patronize and kindly encourage them to maintain their mask requirements and other COVID safety measures to protect their employees and customers. The "freedom" bunch is certainly being vocal so businesses need to hear our voices on this issue as well.

NH Supreme Court today.
The Superintendents of the ConVal, Monadnock, Mascenic and Wi******er School Districts wish to provide the following statement in response to the Supreme Court of New Hampshire’s ruling this morning:

“We are heartened by today’s ruling by the Supreme Court of New Hampshire on the Districts’ lawsuit regarding state education funding. The Court’s decision to remand the case to Superior Court Judge David Ruoff for review allows the District and its co-plaintiffs to present factual evidence that the State of New Hampshire is not providing adequate education funding. In today’s ruling, the Supreme Court rejects both the State’s Motion to Dismiss and the State’s Motion for Summary Judgment.

“In the landmark Claremont decision, the Court ruled that the state is obligated to pay for an adequate education for all children. Nearly 30 years later, that still has not happened.

“Adequate funding, according to the state, does not include transportation costs, funding for school nurses or food services, and only a fraction of facilities operations and maintenance costs — all of which combine to ensure a quality education for our students. The state determined that in 2019 it cost $3,636 per student to provide an adequate education. By the state’s own formula, our districts all should have received more than $9,900 per student.

“Education costs $18,000 per student on average. No one could reasonably argue that $3,636 per student will provide an adequate education.

“The Legislature, though under court order to repair its funding formula, has not done so. This has shifted responsibility for education funding to the communities, whose residents have had to decide between education funding and rising property taxes. Inequities in taxation and funding now stretch across the state.

“Today’s outcome is a positive one for students of New Hampshire, but it is only one small step toward solving an urgent issue for students throughout the state. This issue has now impacted two generations of New Hampshire children and will continue as long as the state fails to meet its obligations under our state Constitution.

“Our students, and students across the State of New Hampshire, deserve an adequate and equitable education immediately, and we will continue working together to ensure the state upholds its constitutional responsibility to them.”

Public funds for public schools!

20/03/2021

The State of NH ALREADY does not adequately fund education. It is 50th in the country for education funding. Two NH Supreme Court rulings have decided that NH Constitution mandates the STATE provide funding for an adequate education. The state has still not met that bar and is being sued for a third time. This lays the burden of funding education on the community. This impacts Newport, a property poor community causing higher property taxes. SB 130 would take the money the state pays per student and give it to families for **tuition to religious schools, private schools, home schooling. THIS IS TAXPAYER MONEY. PUBLIC funding with no PUBLIC accountability. Newport would receive less state aid and YOU the local taxpayer would be asked to make up the difference.

The American Rescue Plan is coming to NH! Here is what we will get. Let's help Gov. Sununu keep track of how it is being spent.

$1,400 in direct payments to individuals and dependents, bringing nearly $1.5 billion into the Granite State.

$300 in federal expanded unemployment insurance benefits through the summer -- $17 million a week for struggling Granite Staters.

$3,000 to $3,600 child tax credits, enough to lift 8,000 New Hampshire kids out of poverty and provide tax relief to the families of 222,000 New Hampshire children.

$350 billion in state and local government aid that can be used to offset revenue losses and help hold down property taxes, including more than $1.5 billion in aid for New Hampshire.

$48 billion for COVID testing, tracing, and prevention.

$15 billion to fund vaccinations and COVID treatments.

$125 billion for public K-12 schools to reopen safely -- including $350 million for public schools in New Hampshire.

$29 billion in direct relief for the restaurant industry.
New PPP loans and Emergency Impact Disaster Loans, plus $1.25 billion to aid performance venues.

$39 billion to address the child care crisis -- including $367 million in new child care funding for New Hampshire.

$27.4 billion for rental housing assistance, including $152 million for New Hampshire.

Expanding subsidies to purchase health insurance under the Affordable Care Act for two years, which would reduce premium payments for New Hampshire families by an average of $291 a month.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BIDEN!!!!!
