Preparing for Shastrapujanam
Kalaripayattu is a traditional martial art from Kerala, India that has been practiced for centuries. It is considered to be one of the oldest and most complete fighting systems in existence. The practice combines strikes, kicks, grappling, pressure point attacks and weapon-based techniques, and is said to improve strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. The training is rigorous and usually starts with a warm-up that includes movements to increase the flexibility of the joints and muscles. Training also includes practicing techniques with weapons such as the sword and shield, as well as empty hand techniques. Kalarippayattu is not only a method of self-defense, but it is also considered a path to physical and spiritual development.
