Calcivis imaging system is focused on revolutionizing the management of dental caries or tooth decay
For the first time the Calcivis Imaging System enables dentists and their patients to visualise calcium ions as they are released from a demineralizing tooth surface. The System represents the first use of the power of biotechnology in dentistry. It uses a recombinant bioluminescent photoprotein which reacts with free calcium ions to produce light. The System therefore helps clinicians to differen
Do early preventive dental visits reduce future operative treatments? A recent study study of a prevention-oriented pediatric dental practice published findings demonstrating that early dental examinations and more dental cleaning examinations lead to a decrease in the number of dental operative procedures needed by children. Calcivis® is a non-invasive and pain-free diagnostic tool that is safe and effective for use in adults and pediatric patients age six and up. Detect the early demineralization that happens before a cavity has a chance to develop!
A recent study found that patients who were prescribed Prevident 5000 fluoride spent, on average, 48% less on restorative dentistry. Is this a good thing for dentists? According to Dr. Joshua Austin, it definitely is. Although the patients in the study spent less on restorative procedures, they were happier and had more visits with less bad news and referred approximately 20% more patients than those who were not prescribed Prevident.

1. A visible image of the tooth is taken with the LED light on.
2. The LED light then switches off, a photoprotein is immediately sprayed onto the surface and a second image is taken, revealing the bioluminescent light generated by the interaction between the CALCIVIS® photoprotein and free calcium ions.

According to a 2017 article in 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘋𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 by Kim Miller, RDH, BSDH, common benchmarks of a successful hygiene department include generating 25-30% of gross practice production and identifying 75% of restorative needs during hygiene visits.
The CALCIVIS® Imaging System is a chairside tool that can help engage your patients in their own preventive care by providing powerful visual imagery of the demineralization that occurs in teeth 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 a cavity develops.
Thinking about orthodontic treatment for you or a family member? Be sure you have your hygiene in order! A recent study published in the June 2024 issue of 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘖𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 examined the long-term associations between caries and white spot lesions (WSL) and orthodontic appliances. They found that patients who already had caries experience at the beginning of orthodontic treatment were more than twice as likely to develop WSL than those without caries experience.
A recent article in 𝘋𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴 by Dr. Gordon Christensen answers the question of why there is such a high emphasis on techniques and concepts that are at the end of the life cycle of teeth, and whether more emphasis should be placed on preventing the conditions necessitating complex treatments. • The essential elements of the CALCIVIS® Imaging System work together to accurately detect early activity associated with the development of carious lesions.
• The natural bioluminescent properties of photoproteins generate a light signal in the presence of the free calcium ions (Ca2+) which are released during active demineralization.
• No other approach provides the ability to instantly observe active, ongoing demineralization with your patients in real time.
