Fitness, Wellness and Healthy Living

Often times, we have been told or heard that HEALTH is WEALTH, but do we actually see it that way? if so, do you INVEST, MANAGE, GROW, PROTECT or SAVE IT? It is observed that people tend to focus on it(HEALTH) when there is a need (emergency) or importance to it (medical reasons or appearance) which it ought not be.

They say “When there is life, there is hope" but in what state? what quality of life? Your degree of been hopeful depends on how healthy you are. You can keep pushing, moving and chasing your dreams or goals when you are healthy. Otherwise, you are at a disadvantage.

Been/Staying healthy should first be your priority. Of what use is having all the fame, knowledge, skills, money, influence, friends and connection and all when you are down. Just like one does in maintaining their car, you need to lubricate, wash, paint, service and handle it with care for longevity.

describe HEALTH as a state of COMPLETE PHYSICAL, MENTAL & SOCIAL WELLBEING and not merely the absence of diseases or infirmities.
Note:
1. Physically nourish your health (Eat, Exercise & Rest)
2. Mentally guard and fortify your mind
3. Socially surround and navigate yourself with positive support system.

Manage Your Health, Invest in it.
HEALTH IS THE NEW WEALTH

It doesn't matter how much, just keep moving. It doesn't matter how long, just keep moving.

Just Move.
One leg in front of the other.
Step at a time.

It doesn't kill.

The 5 minute you have.
Just Move.

It's worse doing nothing.

Keep pushing, keep moving.

It doesn't have to be complex, it doesn't have to be extreme, simple basics and take it up from there.

10. USE PROPER EQUIPMENT

To avoid stories that touch the heart, it is very important to use the proper and right equipment to exercise. Since you are just starting, getting back to shape or exercising at home, Bodyweight exercises are a great choice to start with.

If you're starting small with exercising at home and you think of getting few exercise equipment, the first thing you need is an exercise mat, an exercise ball and a jump rope. If you plan to take exercisng seriously, you should buy resistance bands, a set of dumbbells, and a barbell.

Depending on your budget, you can also purchase a home multi station gym or a treadmill. These accessories will help maximize your workout. They can also lower your risk of injuries and help you lose weight or build muscle in less time.

This is where the tips on 'A Must Know Before Exercising' ends.

9. EXERCISE CAN BE BORING

Have it in mind that it's not going to be fun and interesting always, exercise can be boring. You've been doing the same thing over and over - run, jump, push, pull, sore, pain, repeat n repeat and oh the sweat (tell me about it), there would be days it's going to seem off. You begin to wonder 'to what end' but this isn’t a reason to stop working out.

The way out is to be creative and find new ways to spice up your workout. There are plenty of ways to avoid boring routine or exercising and improving or increasing motivation.

Start by trying new exercises, use a new machine, change your exercise program or make it more challenging, get a workout buddy or make simple changes as simple as buying new wears, training outdoor or changing you playlist.

DON'T GIVE UP.

8. EXERCISE CAN BE PAINFUL

It is important you are aware that exercise causes soreness. If you are just starting to exercise or out of shape, over exerting or training too hard and trying a new or unusually exercises, you should expect to experience muscle soreness or/and joint pain. This pain is usually felt after the workout.

Most people feel it the following day especially after waking up and can go on for days, depending on the individuals level of fitness, type of exercise done and it's intensity. You don't have to worry about muscle soreness since it is very normal and dissapear within few days. However, you should not stop exercising.

Joint pain can also be caused by overuse, injury or bad exercise form. Do ensure you get your form right and ask for guidance if you do need it.

Start with lighter exercises and make sure you warm up properly before exercising and cool down afterwards. Exercising strengthens the muscles that support the joint and minimizes the risk of further injury. You just have to do it right and safely.

7. YOU NEED TO HYDRATE PROPERLY

Good hydration means getting the right amount of water before ,during and after exercise. The optimum fluid intake during exercise depends on many factors, such as the level of intensity and exercise duration, ones physiology and the environmental conditions.

During exercise, you tend to sweat, thus, you lose water and electrolytes. Electrolytes are minerals (e.g. sodium) in the body that carry an electric charge. Electrolytes affect our nerve and muscle function, our body’s hydration, blood pressure, and other important processes. Losing water and electrolytes leads to dehydration.

When you are dehydrated, your body can’t perform at its highest level. You may feel tired, have muscle cramps, dizziness, or other serious symptoms.

For most people, water is all that is needed to stay hydrated. However, if you have been exercising at a high intensity for more than an hour, a sports drink may be helpful. The calories, potassium, and other nutrients in them can provide energy and electrolytes to help you perform for a longer period of time.

6. KNOW WHEN TO STOP

You need to be mindful of your limits.
Injuries are quite common among exercise beginners, whether you exercise at home or the gym. Thus, it’s essential to know when to stop.

When you feel pain or discomfort while exercising, stop and rest before you continue. Pushing yourself through the pain may not be the best idea and may lead to serious injury. Having muscle soreness and being fatigued are perfectly normal, but feeling pain, dizziness, and fever can be an early indicator that something is wrong.

And yes, if you injure one part of your body, you sure can still do strength exercises for other parts of your body (for example injury to shoulder, then you can work your legs). Just make sure you allow yourself enough time to recover and seek professional treatment, if needed.

You need to know that working out harder and faster is not necessarily better. Have patience and take your time to progress through your fitness journey.

Massage helps the body recover from the stresses of strenuous exercise and daily physical activities and facilitates the rebuilding phase of conditioning.

Massage improves blood and lymph circulation, muscle relaxation, removal of waste products and better cell nutrition, normalization and greater elasticity of tissues, deactivation of trigger points, and faster healing of injuries.

It all adds up to relief from soreness and stiffness, better flexibility, and less potential for future injury.

Strengthening your back helps improve your quality of life.

A strong back allows you to perform daily tasks with relative ease, improves posture and is protective against injury.
