Wild Acre Homeschool for Girls
Documenting some of the activities we do while homeschooling.
N just finished Year 1, Level 1 of Pinwheels by Rooted in Language. She has made so much progress in a few months and really loves the program. She is excited to start level 2 next week (she doesn’t actually want to wait 😂).
We are working on world geography this year. We are currently working our way through Asia. We ended our unit on China with trying our hand at Chinese brush painting. At the end of our Japan unit, we did a variation on Japanese woodblock prints.
Plans were canceled this afternoon due to wet and cold weather so we played with the Sphero. We made obstacle courses for each other.
For our last magnetism demonstration, we made a homopolar motor.
Exploring magnetic force by making the paper clip hang in the air. We also measured how far we could hold two different magnets away from the paper clip before it fell to determine which magnet was stronger.
The Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria
The past couple weeks we have being learning about the Algonquian, a Native American tribe that lived in our area. Today we finished up by making wigwams.
The kids are excited today. Earlier this week we finished reading The Tale of Despereaux so we are watching the movie this morning.
This week we are finishing our unit on Vikings from Beautiful Feet Books. The kids enjoyed the book, Leif the Lucky; and they had fun making Viking boats from an orange juice carton and Vikings from clothespins.
We were gifted this gears kits. Today was the first day playing with it. Great for problem solving and fine motor skills.
Starting nature study this summer with my 7 and almost 5yo. I picked up some small backpacks from the dollar tree to make nature packs (includes drawing utensils, small clip board, paper, magnifying glass, etc). Today we talked about what makes something alive and then headed into the backyard to draw some flowers.
Al-Bari = The Producer
According to the Beautiful Names of Allah Kids Journal and Activity book, the difference between Al-Khaliq and Al-Bari is that Al-Khaliq creates from nothing while Al-Bari brings things together to make His creation. The body systems were used to show how Al-Bari brought different systems together to make our bodies work together seamlessly.
Swipe to see a body systems puzzle the kids enjoyed putting together.
Al-Khaliq = the Creator
Al-Khaliq created everything from nothing so we made the solar system. (Yes, I know it is not to scale. 😂)
My 4yo worked on one of the week 2 crafts from Allamah while her big sisters went to another activity. I think it turned out great!!
Excited to start this course and make our homeschool even better than it already is!
Just a few of the MANY bones we found today in our owl pellets.
Identifying the different stages of meiosis in the cross-section of the anther of a lily flower under the microscope. Z was really excited that she was able to identify some of them!
Magnification at 40x, 100x, and 400x
Z’s animal cell
Wheat and all-purpose flour under the microscope
Pics of onion under the microscope
Playing with vibrations today.
We had a win today with Z. We recently switched her math curriculum to Khan Academy as she really just dreaded doing her other math curriculum. For the most part it has been going well. She really likes earning points and reaching different levels with Khan Academy. She had gotten stuck with percentages. She really wasn’t understanding even with the videos on Khan Academy. We spent the week before February Break with me trying to explain and us practicing percentage problems together. At times I thought it was going well, other times she still wasn’t getting. Finally today we did a quick review and I had her do several problems herself. She did really well. The final test was to go complete the Khan Academy percentage quiz on her own. She got all the questions correct!!🎉🎉🎉
This is our second attempt. We used more baking soda and vinegar this time around.
We made a volcano in the snow. The first time wasn’t as impressive as we hoped so we did it a second time.
Today we made a “lava lamp” using oil, water, food coloring, and alka-seltzer. Thanks for the recommendation, Yasmeen!
Last week we grew more crystals. This time using baking soda and water. We thought it turned out pretty cool. Just be warned, if someone bumps the plate causing the water to spill and then not clean it up, it does make a mess on the counter. Haha.
The little girls had a lot of fun digging for fossils.
We made rock candy this week!
