Aiding and controlling of 1 hoiho let alone 2 hoiho is a matter of consistantly being able to think ahead for them both. Moving left to right or right to left, stopping and going, gates and speeds making sure all cues and aids are as clear as can be so both hoiho understand what is being asked of them

When there are 3 hoiho we need to consistently think ahead alot more, a calmer approach is needed as now your working with 3 other minds plus your own. There needs to be alot more clarity in aids and cues to what is being asked of the 3 of them.

This was Jairohs first time being led with our other two and we were very impressed with his attitude, attempts, his calmness and overall performance at this exercise.

Soft and Suppleness Exercises

"Bending Transitions"

Our aim with this exercise is to gain softness and suppleness,
Consistently moving their feet, maintaining a circle in forward movement (at a trot or walk)

This exercise works with getting our Hoiho to give softness in their rib area

There are 5 main body parts on a horse to get soft and supple, they are:

Head & Neck
Poll
Shoulders/Forequaters
Ribs
Hips/Hindquaters

We have just started working on this exercise and over the next few days we will be showing what improvements we have worked on to gain soft and suppleness with our Hoiho

New Zealand's first horse truck

A colourised photo of what is believed to be the country's first (or certainly very early) horse truck/float, photographed at a hunt meeting in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. We wonder if the horses were backed in, or loaded from the other side? The gear 'compartment' is right at the back, (or is it for hounds?) in case you missed it. We just thought you'd like to see this photo too!

UPDATE: The truck likely has a rego plate from 1927-28 thanks to Jim Gordon who said:
"You can date NZ vehicles quite accurately as their plates were changed annually between 1925 and 1940 and were a different colour and used a different symbol for a hyphen to indicate the year. It's a little blurry but I am pretty sure that's a "star" for a hyphen meaning this photo is dated 1927-1928 and is yellow/black. I think the colourisation is slightly incorrect for the plate as the 26-27 is white/black but has a dash hyphen."
