Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone near and far! May today be a good reminder that there’s love everywhere, in others, in us, in our furry friends, in nature, in the sky and in our hearts. Sending love to everyone!

Thank you, Obrigada, Grazie, Gracias for all the birthday love. I was showered with affection, kindness and generosity both online and in person and for this I am grateful. Many thanks to everyone who reached out, texted, made posts, gave me hugs, smiles, presents, surprise parties, batucada and cake! You helped me recharge my batteries and engage with the joy of being alive. Thanks to everyone who made me feel special. When those familiar feelings of unworthiness come knocking, I’ll remember what y’all did for my 43th birthday and realize I ain’t got no time to waste feeling down on myself. This is my one and only life and I’ve got a lot to do still!

Here’s to another year on this earth, I’m still in the game! Sending love to everyone near and far and a special lovely energy to all the fellow Aquarians out there. Thank you for your sensitivity and creativity. Go Aquarians!

The recent wave of grief reminds me to celebrate life. It's been a sad and emotional time not only in my personal life but also in so many places all over the world. My dear friend Marta Santos planted a seed of joy in my mind and so I decided to celebrate my birthday with a weekend of fun. We are here for a brief time and so let's rejoice. See calendar attached :)

Festivities will commence on Friday Jan 26th 6-10pm with a ladies' dance party in East Sac, where I'll be vending Maria Canta Brazil, link here: https://www.goddessnightout.org/shop/tickets

Saturday Jan 27th 9pm is time for a live Brazilian band Boca do Rio at the Torch Club in Midtown.

On my actual birthday Sunday Jan 28th, there will be two events: In the afternoon 1-4pm the beautiful Eliza Nova Maroney will be facilitating a vision board workshop along with the lovelies Gigi Smith and Avory The Intuitive at Antiquite Maison Privee Midtown on P Street. Link here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2024-vision-board-workshop-tickets-793951920567?aff=oddtdtcreator

In the evening of Sunday Jan 28th, you can find me sipping wine at Lucid Winery and chatting with the sweet winemaker Kevin Luther 6-9pm on R Street downtown.

See ya then! 🥰

Almost 43! Quase 43!

Life is a mixture of pleasure and pain, joy and grief, confusion and certainty. Some of us stay close to our roots, other feel a need to flee the nest as soon as we can. It’s complex and there is no single recipe that works for everyone. The best we can do is care for our mental health and look for harmony with ourselves and everyone. Life is but a flash then it’s over. We only get one chance.

Hello friends, go take selfies with my grandma at Twisted Track Gallery at the corner of 12th and R in downtown Sacramento until Dec 31st. Gallery hours: FRI: 6pm-10pm, SAT 12pm-10pm, SUN 12pm-5pm. Family friendly and free! Second Saturday reception tomorrow Dec 9th.

On display are 7 images from my 20 year project documenting my grandma's recipes and the food culture of my childhood home. These images are a tiny fraction of a huge archive I've been creating for the past 2 decades (!), including still photographs, video and audio interviews and archival materials.

For 45 years my grandma ran a bed and breakfast out of her home, where I grew up. She was most famous for her cooking. Her recent unexpected death has filled my heart with a grief I had not imagined possible. The opportunity to honor her by sharing this work with you has been healing to my heart.

This is part of a group art show by residents of WAL, so you'll also get to check out works by my talented neighbors. Post your selfies and tag me? I'd love to see your cute faces with my grandma. Sending love to everyone and a reminder to go love on your elders while you can.

I’m grateful for the indigenous culture bearers and community organizers who are out there doing the hard work of healing us and our earth.

Hope to see you tonight Friday Nov 3rd, 5-8pm at the Latino Center of Art & Culture at 2700 Front Street in Sacramento, capital of beautiful California as we celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have passed.

I’ve been working on my grandma’s altar since her death two months ago. Friends helped me make flowers, which turned out so beautifully.

This is a free family friendly event that will go all weekend. Come and experience an extravaganza of colors and culture as the Mexicans are going all out to honor their loved ones. There are going to be tons of performances, fabulous outfits and beautifully detailed decorations. The event flyer and program are attached .

See ya there! ❤️ Sacramento365 Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture

For the past 10 years I’ve been developing different projects with local community groups in Sacramento and last year I started working with the Stockton Boulevard Partnership. It all starts with a vision and then after much work collaborating with community folks, boom! Project finished! This is the cover of the business directory that I created. I conducted a bunch of photo shoots of different local businesses along the boulevard and created this colorful collage. I’m so happy that people have been loving it! These directories are available at the airport and at many locations around town, so pick up your copy. More to come with these folks as we’re working on some public art to be installed along Stockton Blvd in 2024. Stay tuned! Support local businesses y’all! 🤓

Sac Open Studios 2023 is a wrap. Here are some highlights from Sunday Sept 10th at my studio at the Warehouse Artist Lofts in Downtown Sacramento, capitol of the beautiful state of California. I am proud to have pulled this off despite being in mourning over the sudden loss of my grandma just last week. I know she is proud too and her presence was felt for sure.

Many friends came by to support me and bring me lovely positive energies and for this I thank you. It is very difficult to be alone in a country so far from my family and I am forever grateful to the community here in Sacramento, my chosen home.

Now that the studio is set up, I’m planning to open again soon, so stay tuned. This is my final Maria Canta collection and because the items are made in tiny batches, there are either single pieces or only a handful of each item in the collection. This is my final collection of clothing, blankets, hammocks and accessories.

I will continue to work with my fine art photography and also photography for clients and public art projects. I love love love working on the Maria Canta project but my dears, I am spread thin and have too many active projects. We all need time to rest and reflect and so I had to make this very difficult decision to take one big project off my plate. If you see something you like, do reach out to me because there is very limited availability. Sending everyone gratitude and warm wishes. ❤️

I love my job. It’s an honor to hold such an intimate and important position. I get to not only witness and document, but to feel the exhilarating waves of emotions characteristic of those key moments that mark new chapters in people’s lives. Today I got to document my friend’s wedding, the lovely Amanda, beautiful dancer and gorgeous soul, to an equally beautiful man named Dylan. May your joy spread far and wide to bless us all with a sliver of your happiness. 🥰 Yay! ❤️

It’s a pleasure to celebrate six years with my little companion . Adopting Xica has been one of the best decisions in my life. The love and companionship I receive from this little animal on a daily basis has been incredibly healing for me. Endless gratitude to who fostered my doggie and countless others. Many thanks to everyone at for the incredible work they do to rescue abandoned dogs and cats like my Xica. Much love to all the animal lovers close and far. ♥️🐾
