Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Şeb-i Arus ceremony, where I immersed myself in the profound spiritual experience of Rumi’s commemoration through music, poetry, and the mesmerizing dervish semah.! Rumi, also known as Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic. His works, especially the “Masnavi” and the “Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi,” have had a profound impact on literature, philosophy, and spiritual thought. Dervish semah is a sacred form of dance associated with the Mevlevi Order, which was founded by followers of Rumi. The dance is a spiritual practice known as the “whirling dervishes.” It is performed in a specific ritualistic manner with symbolic elements. The dancers, or dervishes, spin in repetitive circles, representing the cosmic dance and seeking spiritual closeness to God. The dance reflects the Sufi philosophy of detachment from worldly desires and the pursuit of divine love. Şeb-i Arus, meaning “Night of Union” in Turkish, commemorates the death anniversary of Rumi. It is a celebration of his union with the divine. Nysa’nın en iyi korunmuş yapılardan biri olan Tiyatro, yaklaşık 73×99 m’lik bir alanı kaplamaktadır. Geç Hellenistik Dönem’de (M.Ö. 1. yy’ın 2. yarısı) inşa edilmiş olduğu düşünülen ve yarım daire formunu 12 derece aşan bir cavea ya (oturma alanı) sahiptir. Yapıya ait sahne binası ve scaenae frons (sahne binası önündeki çok katlı sütunlu mimari), cavea’dan bağımsız olarak M.S 120–140 yılları arasında olasılıkla iki katlı olarak inşa edilmiştir. M.S. 178 depremiyle yıkılan Hadrian Dönemi sahne binası, M.S. 180– 200 yıllarında yeniden üç katlı olarak inşa edilmiştir. Nysa Tiyatrosu, diğer Anadolu antik tiyatroları gibi Anadolu-Roma tiyatroları karakteristik özelliği taşımaktadır. Sahne binası önündeki çok katlı cephe mimarisini (scaenae frons) taşıyan yüksek podyumlar, Perge (Aksu), Side ve Hierapolis (Pamukkale) tiyatrolarında olduğu gibi kabartmalarla süslüdür. Pluton ile Kore’nin evliliği (teogamia) ile şarap tanrısı Dionysos’un hayatını anlatan podyum frizleri, scaenae frons kazıları sırasında in situ (kendi yerinde) olarak ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Mitolojiden birçok önemli karakterin yer aldığı podyum frizleri, aynı zamanda kentin içinde yer aldığı coğrafyadan da alıntılar aktarmaktadır. Menderes Nehri ve Messogis Dağları bunlara örnek teşkil etmektedir.
