Donate to Please Help My Sister with Art College Tuiton & Expenses, organized by Brittany Works 10/06/2024

I am so appreciative that my sister created this to help me. Here is a little more about my journey:
To attend School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has been a dream of mine since 7th grade. It is a world renowned University and I am leaving for Chicago in August to begin my BFA, emphasis on Painting & Drawing with an Art History Thesis (translates to basically a Major in visusl art painting, with a minor in Art History)

Based on the art portfolio I submitted with my college application, SAIC awarded me the Distinguished Merit Scholarship in the amount of $88,000.00 (yep I almost fainted, when I read that, I am still ecstatic). This is the 2nd highest scholarship they award and it covers 40% of the annual tuition for four years. My FAFSA finally processed and the financial aid will cover another $16,000, however I still have a need of $50,000 per year in order to be loan free. This is just over 50% (tuition, room, board & fees).

I have spent this gap year working to build up money to cover costs of moving, additional living expenses and fees. I have also been applying for scholarships non-stop, but unfortunately haven't had luck of the draw with these yet, but I still keep applying. There was a sponsorship that was lined up, and this would have covered almost all of what is remaining, but this was pulled due to a shift in funding.

Thank you for taking time to read about this portion of my journey and if you are able to help me, I GREATLY appreciate it.

I'm excited to go to the MIM in a couple weekends. I shot B-roll, back in Fall 2022, for the documentary film 'Juxtapose' (the film Alice mentions about the Mariachi Band) that will be showcased at this event. Film will show from 11-11:30 both days (5/11 & 5/12). I haven't seen the film yet, so pretty fun, hopefully I'll be off work, so I can go.

It was great to see Ryan Quackenbush ( https://www.ryanquackenbush.com ) again this year his art is amazing, have to save up because I have my eye on a crimson Peak piece. He is so nice and looking to help Solid Rock with a donation to the silent auction for next spring and is interested in possibly doing more. I would enjoy sitting in on an artist workshop with him.

Ryan Quackenbush is the writer and artist of several self-published comic books and has done illustration for numerous local and national businesses. He has created books such as The Rehearsal, Monster, and the Vicki the Wonderful. He is also the artist of the soon to be released Image Comic, Junior Baker, written by Joe Casey.

Come see Ryan and his art at Phoenix Fan Fusion, and discover other comic creators whose work thrills you.

I also had a wonderful time meeting Sarah Wilkinson Art and I absolutely love her original art (go to her site to see gorgeous pieces many of which speak to self healing and mental health). Thank you Sarah for taking time to talk with me, enjoying seeing some of my most recent pieces and your supportive words of encouragement!! Being the Star Wars fan I am, I got these beautiful Star Wars prints (she is a licensed artist with Lucas, pre-Disney even, 20yrs ago!!!). My mom got the beautiful skeleton an original piece, entitled "Haunted", from Love Series and we bought a great Star Trek table mat for my dad for Father's Day (paired with the William Shatner photo op and meeting Walter Koenig, who played Chekov).

Please help!

Helton is my best friend's dad and he already barely survived leukemia 10yrs ago and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and the Drs did surgery, believing it was successful because scans showed cancer free. Then this January he had pain and the Drs learned they were wrong, the cancer had jumped to his liver and because it had metastasized they said no surgery! They started chemo, but he had a severe reaction at the enzymatic level, so they have to do alternate treatments, but insurance doesn't cover it. Plus the money they have to use for treatments is also causing them to not be able to cover their mortgage.

Was a great weekend at Phoenix Fan Fusion I was able to meet many people, but one of my highlights was meeting Ashley Eckstein the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Forces of Destiny, The Rise of Skywalker and Tales of the Jedi. Also meeting James Arnold Taylor the voice of Obi-Wan in Star Wars Clone Wars. They were both very nice.

It was so awesome that Ashley appreciated the fan art I created for myself during the shutdown. I just wanted to show it to her and she not only loved it, but also offered to sign it!! She also asked me about being an artist, I told her I just graduated HS and will be going to SAIC for college. She asked to see some of my original art and so I showed her "Odette" and she started following me on Instagram right then. Then today she told James about my art. It was a real honor! Definitely a high point! Now to varnish my Ahsoka piece.

"School's Out!" Officially! Proudly carried the flag of the Media Arts & Design Academy into graduation today and gave a speech representing my academy. Thank you to Mr Brian Fair, my school's principal for his extremely kind words about me in his speech! So much appreciation for the words of encouragement that Ms. Signa Oliver Oliver4Ward2 gave to all of us, but also to me before we walked in. Thank you is not enough to all my teachers, friends, family and everyone else who has supported me and helped me and continues to do so, as I am on this artist's journey, which is taking me to SAIC!! AND I graduated Magna Cum Laude (didn't know that until I saw my diploma πŸ₯°).
