A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in the regular care of children, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of illness in children. Young patients are often more complicated to treat because they are still growing and developing.
While pediatricians may sub-specialize in specific therapy areas like oncology, surgery, ophthalmology, and anesthesiology, in general, pediatricians provide services like vaccinations, health exams, and treatment of common ailments and injuries. In addition, pediatricians are trained to handle the complex emotional and behavioral issues faced by children, especially during puberty.
Pediatricians normally see their patients from birth until the age of 18, although some may agree to treat patients into their early 20s, if requested.

Maternal substance abuse continues to be a significant issue in the United States. The rate of current illicit drug use among pregnant women

meconium drug-testing formula is now widely used by hospitals and pharmaceutical companies. The formula detects the presence of prohibited drugs – such as narcotics like morphine, shabu, ma*****na and o***m – in the baby’s first poops (meconium), which is a green matter.

Meconium drug testing can detect maternal drug use during the last 4 to 5 months of pregnancy. A negative result does not exclude the possibility that a mother used drugs during pregnancy. Detection of drug use depends on the quantity and quality of the specimen tested as well as the pattern and frequency of drug(s) used by the mother.
Although not likely, drugs administered during labor and delivery may be detected in meconium. Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory. The concentration at which the screening test can detect a drug or metabolite varies within a drug class. The concentration value must be greater than or equal to the cutoff to be reported as positive.
