Happy Halloween! 🎃❤

Here are some of the pumpkins we grew this year: Spaghetti Squash, Sweet Dumplings and Waltham Butternuts. Yes, all of them are edible! Besides from these, we grew Atlantic Giants, Uchiki Kuri's, Sweet Mama's and Bottlehouse gourds (technically not a pumpkin but a decorative gourd). They'll last us all winter.

🍝🍜 Have you ever tried Spaghetti Squash? We had about 50 in our harvest this year. It's very different from its regular pumpkin brethren, as its insides are stringy like noodles. Here's how to cook them:

1. Cut them in half and remove the seeds
2. Oil both halves and bring to taste with salt and pepper. Too much oil makes 'm soggy, so be frugal.
3. Place them with the skin up, flat side down, on an oven platter. Using a fork or knife, poke some holes through the skin.
4. Place in oven at 180 degrees celsius for about 35 minutes (depending on the size of the squash).
5. Once done, turn them around and, using a fork, work the noodles free.

You can now use them as pasta or noodles in your favourite recipes! We prefer them in a Pad Thai or as creamy pasta. You can even make dessert from them. Yummy yummy in my tummy!

😻 Our cats get extra cuddly in the cold. We love it! For catlovers just like us, we created our super cute Catstronaut shirt. But did you know the design also has a jellyfish version? Autumn is a wonderful time to go for a hike. The breeze is cool but the weather's warm enough for spending time outdoors. Just make sure you get down from your mountain safely! Knee injuries are incredibly common, so find out how you can avoid them.

Tomorrow is World Cleanup Day!

A little reminder that everything you don't dispose of properly can end up in nature and harm the wildlife and environment.

Yavanna from Geek & Green is an avid beach cleaner. This year, she helped clean up a massive amount of cigarette butts from the Dutch beaches. Did you know that ci******es are made up of nearly 95% plastic, as well as toxins? If you throw them on the street, there's a high chance that wind and water runs them into rivers and the ocean, where a single cigarette pollutes about 8 litres of water. In the Netherlands, this week there's extra attention for the food waste issue. Want to help? Here are some quick tips on how to prevent food waste:

1. Plan your meals ahead of time and create a shopping list. This way, you know you have the right amount of food at home, and you prevent impulse buys.
2. Use the Too Good To Go app to find commercial quality food that would otherwise go to waste. From muffins to dinners, it's useful, and so yummy!
3. Store leftovers in the fridge or freezer (or eat them right away!). Leftover fruits and vegetables can be made into broths, jams or purees and canned.
4. Get creative with leftovers! There's plenty recipes out there for random foods. Just Google search your leftover foods and see what comes up...!

B: I'm a splash-shaped window into a world filled with boulders of different shapes and sizes! Rock climbing is a lot about finding the correct route and body positioning to get to the end of the boulder. We call this problem solving. 🧐
Us: That sounds familiar - we too have problems. Sometimes.
B: Hang on: problem solving is a combination of training, experience and how fit you feel. And when you really get stuck, you can always ask a friend!

C: This is chalk. Climbers use it to stick better when climbing and to protect their skin. Chalk comes in liquid, bar form, smooth or chunky - like myself.
Us: Fascinating! I would love to learn more about this sport.
C: Well then, I would love to introduce you to some friends. Haaaave you met…

Us: Lovely to meet you, Level Up. Would you explain how you were inspired to create this look?
L: Of course! I'm half Scandinavian - Norwegian, to be precise. So in creating my look, I took inspiration from Scandinavian folk art.
Us: Ah that explains the beautiful colors. But then - whence the name?
L: I think that life is just one big video game. We go around restoring our health, depleting it, restoring mana, depleting it, gathering hearts, losing them. I make it my quest to level up by going on as many adventures as I can.

Have you dozed off? Boy, did we. It's been so busy, we had to put Geek & Green on the backburner for a little while.
