2023 Year in Review at Valley Health As 2024 approaches, Valley Health looks forward to a year full of new opportunities to serve our community with compassion and innovation. Before we turn the page on 2023, we’d like to take a quick look back at some of our high points at Valley Health.

We are privileged and grateful that these individuals join us in our ministry of serving our community by improving health, and we are a better place because of them.

This week, April 16 – 22, is National Volunteer Week. Please join us in thanking our 190+ volunteers, who collectively donate more than 15,000 hours per year to our patients, their families and our community. They are an integral part of our mission to serve our community by improving health, and this week, we thank them for the essential role they play.

At Valley Health, we are committed to celebrating diversity and fostering an environment where everyone feels included and recognized for what makes them unique. In celebration of , we will share stories from our Valley Health teammates about what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them.

I’m honored to be among this broad, distinguished group of leaders who are making a difference in the lives of Virginians. I want to thank all 6,000+ of my teammates for working the vaccination clinics, finding PPE, and taking care of our families and friends regardless of the risk to themselves. You provided a safety net for our community when it needed it most.

Please take a moment to read this post. Violence against healthcare workers continues to increase. Last week I shared some thoughts with our community on steps we are taking. I’m honored to lead our extraordinary team of caregivers. My number one responsibility is to keep them safe.

Violence Against Healthcare Workers: Yet Another Epidemic At Valley Health, we are committed to our work as caregivers and the sacred role we play as our community’s place of healing, but our standard and expectation of those we care for is simple: we have zero tolerance for verbal or physical abuse of our caregivers.

June is Pride Month, and we are pleased to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community, including our friends, family, colleagues and patients.
When I think of health care, I think of the inclusivity we must afford every patient by welcoming them with compassion and dignity. Our caregivers are taught to not see the differences in patients, but the similarities that make us all human.

At Valley Health, we take great pride in celebrating the diversity of our team members, our organization and our patients. Recognizing and appreciating each other is an essential part of our culture. ❤️

Earlier this month we recognized 14 Wi******er Medical Center nurses for achieving excellence in their field. The winners were nominated by their peers, which makes it that much more special. Read more in The Wi******er Star.

Congratulations to our Vascular Care Team at Wi******er Medical Center for receiving three stars (the highest score possible!) from the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Vascular Quality Initiative for the fifth consecutive year. ⭐⭐⭐

Meet Barb. September will mark her 55th year as an RN. A fellow caregiver, Amber (Heart Failure Navigator), shares: "I have been blessed to work beside and be taught by this superstar. She has inspired me so much...she is as passionate about healthcare as I am. She holds her peers to high standards. She grows new nurses. This woman bends over, stoops, kneels, and holds large heavy body parts. She treats new wounds and helps heal old wounds. There is no limit to what she does. She even wears stoma earrings to work!" We are very fortunate to have expert nurses like Barb caring for Valley Health patients. 💙

Today I am taking time to express my sincere gratitude for all of our invaluable physicians here at Valley Health as we celebrate National . It’s impossible to put into words the amount of respect I have for our physicians, those who save lives, heal patients, and who propel our knowledge of medicine forward each year through research and innovation.
