It's Arnica Day! 🧡

Today is the day when the gorgeous freshly harvested crop of arnica is delivered to Weleda Head Office in Derbyshire! 🧡

Thirty years ago Weleda UK took the first delivery of Scottish-grown arnica from herb gardener Duncan Ross – still the only commercial grower of biodynamic herbs in the UK. 🧡

Every year since then, Duncan has made the ten-hour drive with a freshly-harvested crop. The growing conditions for Arnica are rare in Britain, however in Scotland it’s found a natural home in the Black Isle. 🧡

The day before delivery, Duncan and four other gardeners are up early. Each arnica plant is carefully lifted, roots and all, (as the whole of the whole plant is used in our homeopathic remedies), they are washed placed upright in boxes with their roots in cool water. 🧡

Setting off in the twilight hours with around 100kg of plants Duncan makes the 10hr drive, arriving at our pharmacy the next day! 🧡

Our Weleda gardeners meet him early and take delivery of the Arnica where it is then processed and a tincture is created ready for use. It is this fresh arnica tincture that is a vital ingredient in our Arnica range 🙏
