Summary of the New Educational Reform

1. Kindergarten, primary school, JHS and SHS shall all be described as basic school. JHS 1, 2, 3 and SHS 1 shall now be referred as BS 7,8,9 and 10 respectively i. e. SHS 1 shall now be called BS 10.

2. All students in JHS 1 - SHS 1 shall run a Common Core Programme called CCP which comprises of 9 subjects; namely - Maths, Languages, Science, RME (stand alone subject), Physical and Health Education (not examinable) , Career Technology, Social Studies, Computing and Creative Art and Design.

3. A new of examination called National Standard Assessment Test (NSAT) shall be conducted at Primary 2, 4, 6 and JHS 2.

4. BECE shall be replaced by placement exams at JHS 3 to enroll students into SHS1.

5. Students in SHS1 shall continue to run the common core programme for one year thus students into SHS1 shall not select science, busines or arts programmes.

6. At the end of SHS1, Students shall write a Common Core Exams into SHS 2.

7. At SHS 2, students will now have to select either a career related programme which include, vocational and technical programmes or a high school Diploma programmes such as science, busines, arts.

8. This means Elective subjects shall start in SHS 2.

9. Wassce will be replaced by a university entrance exams at SHS3.

10. Students after successful completion of SHS 3 will be rewarded a Diploma Certificate instead of WASSCE certificate.

1. The education system will be more of research, community engagement, projects with fewer contents.

2. Computer Literacy is one of the major focus of this programme as all educational stakeholders must be in good position to provide adequate I.T. facilities for students

3. Science at the basic level comprises physical and applied science which involves more of demonstrative features. It is sectioned into the following:
Diversity of matter
Cycle
System
Forces and Energy
Human and Environment
It is then necessary for all educational heads to recruit more skilled and qualified science persons to run the programme as fewer concepts in the SHS syllabus have been pushed down to prepare students for their electives in SHS 2.

The Akufo-Addo led Government has undertaken the largest investment in the security sector for any first term government since 1992.

President Akufo-Addo’s government has

• Constructed a forward Operating Naval Base construction ongoing at Ezilinbo, Western region.

• In addition, since 2017, we have provided:

• 740 vehicles and three helicopters to Ghana Police Service.

• 190 vehicles to the Ghana Immigration Service

• 138 operational vehicles for the Ghana Armed Forces

• 73 Police Stations

• 22 Fire Service Stations

• We have also embarked on the Ghana Army Barracks Regeneration Projects. Under this project we have;

o Constructed 4 blocks of 16 flats - Accra

o Constructed 40 (2 bed) units – Tamale

o Barracks roads

o $100m Housing project – Kamina Barracks

o $100m housing project- Bawah Barracks

• Completion of Military Academy Training School (MATS), Teshie

• Expansion of Army Headquarters and Training School – New Ghana Army Headquarters Complex

• Naval Training Command Project

• New Military Cemetery

She was born on 20th October, 1964.

She hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

She obtained her O level at Labone Senior High School in Accra.

She proceeded to Mfantsiman Shs for her Sixth form education.

She furthered her education at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School Of Law where she obtained an LLB.

In 1990, she was called to the Bar.

She holds a certificate in Government Integrity from the International Law Institute Washington DC.

She holds a Project Management and Planning Certificate from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

She Obtained Masters in Conflict, Peace and Security at Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

She worked for 10 years as an Associate at Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co., Legal
Practitioners and Notaries Public.

From Sept 2005 to May 2008, she was the acting Managing Director, Western Telesystems (Westel).

She is the first female CEO of a Telecoms company in Ghana

From April 2008 to January 2009, she was the Corporate and External Affairs Director, ZAIN Ghana( Now Airtel)

She also served as a director for Vodafone Ghana.

She was the former president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida Ghana) and Africa Regional Vice President of Fida International.

She is member of African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Ghana.

She served as a Managing Consultant, N. U. Consult Legal, Governance and Gender Consultants.

In 2012, she was first elected as the member of parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on the ticket of the Npp.

She was re-elected in 2016.

In the run-up to the December 7, 2016 elections, she served as the Chairperson for the Social Development Sector Committee – a committee responsible for the development of policy interventions for women, children, persons with disability, the aged and all social intervention policies and programs for the NPP manifesto 2016.

In 2017, President Akufo-Addo appointed her as the Minister for Communications.

She is the first Ghanaian woman to serve as the Minister for communications.

She's one of the most hardworking ministers of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia Government.

She was recently enstooled as the development queen (Nkosuohemaa) of Akyem Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region.

She is married to a UK based Ghanaian opthalmologist, Dr Sam Ekuful, with one child.

Her name is Gifty Ursula Owusu-Ekuful
