This can be related to digestion. Do you get bloated easy, get a lot of gas? May be you have constipation or diarrhoea? Cheeks can also be related to external factors. Are you washing your pillow cases regularly and keeping your phone clean. These can increase the bacteria levels on your face.

Mainly the hair line. Digestive issues -small intestine/gut. If we have inflammation of the gut lining, then we have poor nutrient absorption and may be a micro flora imbalance. When it's hard to absorb the nutrients from our food then our skin suffers as skin loving nutrients will not be able to do their job correctly.

CENTRAL FOREHEAD AND NOSE
Poor dietary choices and not enough nutrient dense foods. A major organ of this area is the liver. Food high in saturated far or drinking a lot of alcohol can slow the liver down - the bodies natural detoxifying organ. This area can also be linked to nutrient deficiencies. We need to make sure we eat a variety of foods.

So what is our body trying to tell us? If we look internally it can help us achieve lasting results. Healing takes time and is never linear.

If we are not fuelling our body correctly, then we may also see changes in other areas - such as our mood, digestion, and just general well-being.

Acne can affect us at all ages. Teens, 20's, 30's, 40's.....so where does acne come from?

Acne is a sign of inflammation and is a direct result of an immune response. It is believed to be caused by a group of hormones called ANDROGENS.

When we have an increase in the production of these hormones, then this can change the shape and size of our follicles. Normally, they are circular but as a result of increased androgen production the follicle becomes more oval and the surface area increases. This, in turn causes the body to produce more sebum ( a natural skin oil ). Sebum helps to protect the skin and  moisturise it making it plump and providing a barrier to protect our skin. However, the more oil we produce, the more likely we are to get a blockage in our pores. The blockage is normally a combination of dead skin cells, sebum and bacteria ( that live naturally on our face ) which are not normally harmful until they get inside the pores and blocked in them. The body then has an immune response and as a result.....a spot!

So, if we can find out why there is an increase in androgen production in the first place which is normally a result of inflammation then we can help to provide support and heal our skin from the inside as well as the outside.

Looking internally, whatever your skin journey is, is just as important as the home care you use and professional in clinic treatments that you have.

My top 3 tips for healthy skin......

1) Reduce stress - your body can make hormones like cortisol, which can tell your skin to make more oils. This can make you more prone to acne and aggrevate other skin conditions like psoriasis, rosacea and eczema. So let's chill out! 😎

2) EAT a healthy diet - just like you are what you eat, your skin can also be a window to your diet . We need to feed our skin from the inside. A balanced nutritional diet that is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Variety is key! Gut health is also a major factor here 💚

3) Treat your skin gently - your skin barrier is so important and we have to make sure that the products we use and treatments we have don't keep stripping that protective barrier away. I see so many treatment combinations that put your skin barrier at risk....it's a no from me!

Skin is not meant to be flawless, but it's meant to be happy and healthy!
