A Little Bit Shelf-ish

A Little Bit Shelf-ish

I like to read books, and review books. . . and just books in general.

Day 9. Summerween

This was years ago, but if you don’t realize that this is a pumpkin field, it looks like just another summer day.

01/08/2021

Amazon, why you do this? You couldn’t slap some kind of cover on there? Any kind of cover? 😭

Day 8. Halloween Accessory

I get so many questions about my case and popsocket and the honest truth is… I got it off Amazon 😅

01/08/2021

Day 7. Fav Horror Movie

It has and always will be the whole Poltergeist franchise, but if I have to pick one, it’s still the original.

31/07/2021

Day 6. Leaves.

Here in the south our leaves like to stay on our trees for a loooong time. But we still get some color. Especially if you go up to the mountains in November…

Day 5: Pet.

I surround myself with buddies because they’re true, they’re always there for you no matter what, and they love you unconditionally. People are cool, but you can really trust your heart, soul, and entire being to an animal.

Day 4: Fav Smell.

Is there any better smell than homemade bread? Is there though?

Day 3: Something Orange.

Look what I remembered I had! Does this count as my spooky mug? No? Well, it’s something orange anyway… 😅

Day 2. Spooky Mug.

I…I don’t have a spooky mug. How can I not have a spooky mug! Maybe I’m not the Halloween lover/spooky girl I thought I was… 😭

(Also, yes, I’m doing two of these a day so i can catch up. And no, I can’t just jump in, my brain won’t let me)

29/07/2021

Let’s see if I can catch up!

Day 1: Selfie + 3 Facts

1. I’m an ! Also, I have led with that fact for years because it’s an easy, nonthreatening fact to lead with! 😅

2. I once met himself, . It was a really big deal to me because I was -and still am- a major trekkie!

3. I own 3 ereaders. Actually 4, because I let my oldest have my old Voyage. And I still read print books as well. I just really love to read, like authentically, I’m just not good at social media!

Ummmm… time for a ? 😅 Got all dolled up today, and honestly was feeling myself. I think that’s my favorite thing about getting older, so far. You really start to appreciate yourself and your own unique features! 😅

16/07/2021

Well, this gorgeous guy showed up at my front door this morning…

12/07/2021

It’s hard to have a bad start to your day when your tea is smiling at you…

09/07/2021

Everyone else is still enjoying summer and I’m over here 🍂🍁 right now. 😅 To be fair I live in the south so our autumns are very mild and pleasant.

08/07/2021

I don’t know what this cat thinks I have… but I am quite aware that she has a very cute face. 🥺

06/07/2021

Been a while since I’ve done anything more meaningful for me than tiktok (which is valid, I have learned a lot there). But thought I’d pick up today.

The koi is done, which means it’s time to start this big boi!

Hi!

I’m still reading, I’m still alive! But recently I was diagnosed with an iron deficiency and just really validated the fatigue etc I feel and I’ve been giving myself more permission to rest. But I’ve also thrown myself into diamond painting so I thought I’d share my newest diamond art with you.

Also, if someone can explain to me why posting on social media after a long hiatus always feels so awkward I’d be appreciative of that, thanks. 😂

Got that sweet sweet covid vaccine! Honestly, I may have been nervous, but I’m also somewhat relieved. It feels like one more step toward a more normal life again.

We went to Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia today, and it was super nice! Also I found the dog hat I saw on the state park website last year and got it because it looks just like my dog. @ Sesquicentennial State Park

The first signs of spring! That’s one of the plus sides to living in the south. You know that if you can just make it through February, Spring will be there to greet you on the other side.

Sigh. So I was here for this book. I was strapped in, committed to and really committed to reading the whole thing before making any judgements. And I was waiting for the twist, or for the revelation. And it never came.

by was brilliant! It was thrilling, chilling, and definitely delivered some deep scares. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a mom so I could really relate to the main character or if it was something else, but I really loved it, it was a two day read for me. I highly recommend if you love horror, fantasy, or thrillers!

Y’all, I started this one and two chapters in I had to put it down. While I like horror, and will tolerate violence, this one was far too violent for me. I don’t doubt this is a good book (I’ve read and seen a lot of reviews that say this is a great one), but it also wasn’t for me. I’m sad that this is the second one in a row, but I’m also trying to DNF more books this year (if I don’t like them, not as a matter of course), and unfortunately this one ended up in that pile.

Ever pick up a book and think “oh, it’s fine, even if I hate it because it’s so short”. 188 pages and I was trying not to DNF it, but after about five days I had to admit that by just wasn’t for me. I just wasn’t connecting to the characters, although I think if you like shows about crime investigation you might really like this.

by started off with a bang, sagged in the middle a bit, but then picked up at the end again. I liked it well enough to read the next in the series since I already own it. 😃 Want to spend some time thinking about it before I decide whether I would recommend it or not though. I think if you like historical, you’ll definitely like this.

There’s a chance, just a chance, that you may see some activity on the blog again... 😉

I don’t know. Are you even reading if there’s not a cat glaring at you? 🤣

Okay, I realize it’s not Christmas anymore, but trying to read Christmas books around Christmas stresses me out for some weird reason.

Anyways, this was an inexplicable impulse buy a few years ago that I got because I really loved the cover (I love all of ‘s covers). I’d picked it up several times, and just had not cared for it until this time. I thought by was so sweet and heartwarming. It was one of those that by 50% I’d put the next book in the series on my wishlist, just because I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the characters. Plus, there was a puppy at the end (puppy!!).

I tried by five times before I got into it this time, and it illustrates why I have such a hard time DNFing books. 🤣 I know I need to DNF more, but I feel like if I give up on a book, I might miss out.

Any which way, this book wound up being really good. It’s one of those horror novels that leaves things on an ambiguous note, and I’m discovering I like that when it’s done well, and I thought it was done really well in this book. Also, at about 280 pages it’s not a very long book, so it was easy to breeze through. Definitely a recommend for me if you love horror.
