Kathy is our home-grown resident instructor and founder. She spent her formative years loving dance, dress-up, theatre and creative writing. Kathy went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology while working as a medical office assistant and instructor at Pure Barre. She quickly traded her medical assistant hat for office and accounts manager at a couple medical start-up companies before joining the big leagues as an operations coordinator for Telus’ healthcare sector.
In August 2021, Kathy left her job with Telus to pursue a career in health and wellness. She spent the last three months in Yoga Teacher Training at Vancouver School of Healing Arts and aspires to become a board-certified health coach. Kathy feels so privileged to teach group fitness and move bodies.
We couldn't think of a better place to host a barre class than The Dance Centre in downtown Vancouver just off of Granville on Davie

"So, what is barre fitness?" is a question I get asked all the time.
If I had to answer in just one sentence, I'd say something like "a full-body, core-centric workout that utilizes the ballet barre and other equipment to work harder, safer, smarter; to the beat of the music."
Ask me what the actual workout is like and I might say: "high repetition of small, controlled movements resulting from precise muscle contractions in time with music is characteristic of barre Fitness , but you’ll also find popular group fitness methods, exercises and equipment woven into class!"

Kathy Booth, founder of The Barre Collective felt that barre fitness could benefit more populations than those who traditional barre studios usually serve. Barre is first and foremost, a form of exercise that is inclusive and adaptable to all abilities. Everyone can benefit from a little barre in their life!
If we had to sum it up in once sentence: A full-body, core-centric workout that utilizes the ballet barre and other equipment to work harder, safer, smarter; to the beat of the music.
Founded in Vancouver, BC in 2021, The Barre Collective's intention is to increase awareness and accessibility of Barre workouts. Barre Fitness is first and foremost a highly adaptable training program that emphasizes core strength, balance and stability, endurance, and flexibility. Inspired by Ballet, Pilates and Yoga, it is an alignment focused workout designed to protect and promote healthy joints without compromising workout intensity.
