I am running for secretary-general to accomplish a few things that will improve UDems. First, I want to increase transparency in UDLC to our members. I want to make it clear when and where the meeting is and make it clear that general members are encouraged to come and sit in during the meetings. I also want to write the meeting minutes in a way that works to make it that even if you couldn’t attend you know line by line what was discussed. I hope that through this not only is UDLC more transparent but also more accessible to our members. Second, I want to work to make our endorsement forums more efficient in hopes to make them quickly without sacrificing our member's right to speak and discuss the topic at hand. Third, I want to continue building on some of the work done by the constitution review committee that I was part of like giving identity caucuses protections. Fourth, I want to work with UDLC to improve our efforts to make UDems, an organization that is safe and welcoming to all members old or new. Fifth, I want to continue our work to register voters and spread the information for the upcoming election.

Hello everyone, my name is Raikolf Lopez. I am a 3rd-year government student. I am running for UDems Secretary-General for Spring 2022. One of my past leadership experiences was that I was the former mayoral candidate in Plainview, TX. While I lost, I was able to push my conservative city council to agree to suspend discontinuing utilities during the worse of the pandemic to make sure those who lost their jobs didn’t lose their water. I was also able to put pressure on the new mayor to start investing in fixing the city’s crumbling infrastructure. I also very recently became the speaker pro tempore for Texas College Democrats. I believe I bring an interesting viewpoint as an immigrant and first-generation college student coming from a working-class family that will be crucial to the board.
