We hope you liked our virtual exhibit that features some artists from Pangasinan! Now we're going to be featuring female artists from La Union, Valen Valero and May Ann Licudine.

Valen Valero was born in San Fernando La Union, at a young age of five, Valen had already started painting. Her families are part of the electricity distribution, managing the La Union Electric Company which made her aware of electricity's value. That is attributed to her sculpture using vintage electric meters, scrap metals and bolts which turns to functional art. On the other hand, her painting consists of writings, numbers, letters, codes, and bold colors of paint.

May Ann's artwork on the otherhand, is influenced by her own visions, nightmares, and childhood memories, as well as God, nature, music, and the works of other great artists. She loves daydreaming, listening to music, and allowing her imagination to run wild into big, colorful skies. May Ann's paintings and drawings radiate and flood with her feelings when she is inspired. She particularly enjoys creating drawings of her own whimsical characters, Babu and Abu the Cat.

Once upon an evening
The dark has covered the whole town
Leaving the lights
Between people and the moon

The chief has started the lead
As hundreds of people gathered
Where shadows were only seen
But one man was missing

The night continues
Still no trace of the man
Until, a mask has yelled in the stage
And the spotlight became his

The man was found.

The man is Neisan Korofuji, a name he used to represent his artworks. He is an artist from the province of Ilocos Norte. He is a one of the bizzare artist that shows his chronicles through his style of sketching.

His artworks influences his love on reading stories in Manga. And now he creates his own. He starts with an idea, sketch, and build it to an artwork.

Someday.

Tricycles, are the primary mode of transportation in every barangay in the Philippines. Another example of the Filipinos' remedyo ingenuity, tricycles can be seen in all kinds of terrain, transporting people and cargo that defies physics and engineering—carrying up to ten passengers at once. They know the different ways on how to arrive at our specific destination. That is why they are important to our country's culture. Wayne Grazio created a painterly post-production effect applied to a digital photography that he took of a street scene in Vigan, Ilocos Norte.

We often get stuck with situations that we think we might not be able to get away from, and sometimes we would think we're walking on a dead-end road. Little did we know, we can create viaducts from within.

Ilocos Norte on the other hand serves as a viaduct to help us quench our thirst to see their famous beaches. their viaduct is considered as the fourth longest bridge in our country with a total of 1.3 km in length which connects Maharlika highway from Laoag Ilocos Norte to the Cagayan Valley Region. The said viaduct was completed in October 1986 and has been a vital structure for motorists and travelers.

The viaduct was constructed to solve the problem of landslides in the area which caused so many vehicular accidents. Not only that but it gives travelers a spectacular view of Pasaleng Bay. This viaduct has become one of the most famous tourist destinations in Pagudpud. The inviting scenery from the sea often encourages tourists to get off their vehicles and capture the majestic view it has.

He is burnt for hours
Until he’s nothing but ashes
Smoke billows from his smile
and his eyes glow dimly in the night
Until the flames vanish

On his eyes, gray drops create charcoal shadows.
He wears the old souls' windowpanes
A tear from his eyes brushed away by his fingers
Such tenderness is deserving of a warm response
The next day, he woke up to charred stains on his walls.

Behind the black shadows, he made bright colors on it. A student who loves to play with charcoal and mold a masterpiece from it. He gambols with a dark umbra and shapes it into a portrait. But with an unlighted color, he turned into a bewildering artwork.

With the raging heat this summer, times like this makes us wish how we could wear this breezy, and flowy outfit!

you can't have a top without a bottom, and the clothes of the traditional Ilocano woman made sure they have a matching upper body clothing and lower body clothing.

The traditional Ilocano dress made of inabel represents the Ilocana's admirable qualities – her aura of quiet elegance, appealing shyness, and grace in her demeanor. The chosen colors reflects her modesty and simplicity. The usual outfit consisted of a two-piece ensemble – a blouse and a skirt.

Kimonas are either plain white or pastel in color, with a cowl neckline. Pandiling on the other hand are full-length skirt, cone-shaped and has a drawstring at the waist. This is made from hand loom-woven textiles that she meticulously woven and hand-sewn. The weave's designs are influenced by natural elements such as diamonds, milkyways, shells, and stripes or checkered patterns.

He will unearth the treasure and uncover the secret

There are peculiar things the common eye cannot discover. It takes an artist to see the beauty hiding beneath the surface. The things we just throw away and the things we never appreciate, all of these are just treasures waiting to be found.

Alger Guevarra is an artist who can see the worth in the most peculiar things. He is a visual artist from La Union. In producing his artworks, he makes use of an unconventional method of using used flip-flops or “tsinelas” to make his paint. He grinds the flip-flops into powder and mixes in glue to make a typical paint mixture. His unique method of painting showcases the ingenuity of Filipino artists, all around the world. Due to his unique art style, his artworks were showcased in an episode of Matanglawin, proving his influence in the Philippine art industry.

Familiar with the movie: Four Sisters and a Wedding? Let me introduce to you, three sisters in a painting!

Ricarte Ico, also known as Ric Ico learned the basics of painting from artist’s friends, and polished his skill further through self-study and perseverance. His knowledge in architectural drafting led him to explore the possibilities of integrating fine art and architecture in his paintings. He started painting in 1995 as a realist painting.

Unlike traditional still-life, landscapes, or portrait paintings, cubist paintings aren’t meant to be realistic or life-like in any way. Instead, after looking at the subject from every possible angle; Ric's pieces together fragments from different point of view into one painting. As a cubist, Ric Ico rejected the inherited concept that art should copy nature, or that they should adopt the traditional techniques of perspective, modeling, and foreshortening. He wanted instead to emphasize the two-dimensionality of the canvas as shown on his fish and human interest series.

On an interview with Jenny Serendipity, Ric has revealed three sisters to be the painting that depicts his personality. He said that when he paint fishes, they have eyes. But when he paint people, they have no eyes. He said that he's a shy guy, and he's quite shy when he's facing with beautiful women.

On the other photo you can see another one of his creations, Angry Birds in Paradise--referencing to the famous mobile game turned box-office movie on which he experiemented brand new cubist techniques. Where he would be drawing the lines, squares, and arcs that define the paintings of the practitioners of those schools. Since his cubist paintings would almost certainly gain the approval of critics, collectors, and painters who regard clinically-realistic academic paintings as passe, trite, and uncreative.

: ̗̀➛ It known to believe that no man is an island, and company--builds strength among people. It builds hope. This artwork by May Anne Licudine entitled "I was alone without someone" encompasses just how colorful, and lonely it is to be alone. In this mixed media painting, she depicted the emotions and the feeling of how it is when you don't have anyone. Originally from La Union, Philippines, Mall began using wood as a medium back in 2004, when she first discovered the works of Audrey Kawasaki.

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ May Ann earned her first prize for Best in Creative Arts. When she was in fourth grade, she changed her nickname to "Mall." She selected the first letters of her full name. She is a freelance illustrator and graphic artist based in La Union, Philippines. She is also a painter and has had many exhibitions of her work. Her art is influenced by her own visions, nightmares, and childhood memories, as well as God, nature, music, and the works of other great artists. She loves daydreaming, listening to music, and allowing her imagination to run wild into big, colorful skies. Most people are unaware that May Ann was born with a hearing impairment in 1981. But she can now hear, talk, sing, and communicate like any other human. Everyone is awestruck by her transformation. She was able to resolve her deficiency by perseverance, practice, and prayer.
