This will do so much to save lives. We are happy to join the Vision Zero movement.

Tonight, the Tacoma City Council passed Ordinance No. 28825, which lowers the default speed limit on residential streets from 25 miles per hour (MPH) to 20 MPH. This ordinance also lowers the speed limit from 30 to 25 MPH on arterial streets in four Neighborhood Business Districts: 6th Ave Tacoma, Lincoln District Tacoma, McKinley Hill, and Old Town Business District - Tacoma WA. The new speed limits will go into effect in January 2023. We will implement a comprehensive outreach campaign to inform the community about the new speed limits. There will be a grace period between the time when the law goes into effect and when enforcement begins. To find out more about speed limit reduction and Vision Zero, visit cityoftacoma.org/visionzero.

I’m honored and thrilled to have received the sole endorsement of the Tacoma News Tribune. During these challenging times of dangerous misinformation, an honest free press is more important and more impactful than ever before. Thank you for spotlighting my accomplishments and joining many of our neighbors and local leaders in supporting my campaign for Tacoma City Council Position #2.

“...[Sarah’s] no stranger to working in the community, as her current roles on the city’s Human Rights Commission and on the boards of Associated Ministries of Pierce County and Temple Beth El illustrate...Rumbaugh said she’s spent 15 years here raising her family and “believes in building an equitable, more environmentally sustainable community for our children...”

Last month, we invited Tacoma City Council candidates to take transit and talk transportation with us. We asked about barriers to mobility, exciting new projects, and funding public transportation. This week, we’ll be sharing the videos for each district.

Sarah Rumbaugh and Kelly Blucher are running for Tacoma City Council Position 2, which represents Downtown, Stadium, Old Town, and NE Tacoma. They each took the Sound Transit Link light rail with us through Downtown Tacoma. Read the comments below to learn more and watch their interviews.

Thank you Washington Bikes!! For getting behind me as I meet with voters in District 2! I support biking and walking paths because we need alternatives to create a clean environment. Voters in my district want more safe bike routes, and with the proud support of Washington Bikes hope to help 'pedal' the issue forward on the city council.

"Amazing news! I am incredibly proud to have earned the endorsement of the Washington Conservation Voters! 2020-2021 has shined a spotlight on many of the systemic issues we collectively face, and as we look towards a future full of solutions it is imperative that we rally together with allies who understand the importance of prioritizing sustainability and environmental stewardship in all that we do. Thank you for your support and thank you for your trust. -Sarah"

Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Jewish New Year. This is a time for quiet introspective thought and an opportunity before Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, to repent for anything you have done to harm someone else. Before Yom Kippur, Jews are asked to go to those they have wronged and ask for forgiveness. In a way this is different from Christianity; Jews are not asking God for forgiveness, but those they have directly wronged.

One of the most popular Rosh Hashanah customs is eating apple slices dipped in honey. This is symbolic of our hopes for a sweet new year. It is customary to wish someone L'Shana Tovah on this holiday.

I would like to wish all of my Jewish friends a Happy New Year. L'Shana Tovah, and may your new year be a sweet one.

Today is the anniversary of the 19th Amendment's adoption to the US Constitution in 1920. The 19th Amendment prohibits states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the US on the basis of s*x. Let's celebrate how far we have come as women and keep up the fight for equality today and everyday!

I love the people I am meeting on the campaign trail for Tacoma City Council position 2! Thank you for opening your door to say. I have enjoyed all of the conversations, especially when we have differing perspectives! I am running on my values, and while we may vary slightly on how things need to be done, I am someone who asks what you think, tells you where I am on the issues, and doesn't back away from the hard conversations. You will always be able to reach me –– I will make sure to get answers to your questions and get back to you.

I am hearing a lot about Home In Tacoma. I had a conversation with a gentleman on Saturday who is very much against this project. I told him I support Home in Tacoma and believe we need more housing in our city. I did not try to change his mind, but listened to his concerns. He has a lot of ownership in his neighborhood and has some valid concerns. I left with him knowing that when elected to the council, we may not agree on every topic or how we are going to solve the issues that are in front of us, but he will know that I am not just going to say what he wants to hear. I am following up today on some of his concerns and will get back to him with a few answers to his questions.

I was speaking to a woman at the door about my race. I asked if she wanted my literature piece, but she said no because she would just recycle it. She asked what I was running on. I went through some of the major issues and where I stand. I brought up social justice and being Jewish, and she said she was Jewish. By the end of the conversation I had found out she was the daughter of members at my temple and had eaten the challah I had made for them as a welcome gift. In the end, she took my literature piece, said she was voting for me, and sent me this sweet message via text.

Hi everyone! Quick PSA addressing the question everyone is asking me this week: Why is Sarah Rumbaugh not on the Primary Election Ballot?

Here's the scoop: Our campaign for a cleaner, greener, more equitable Tacoma District 2 only drew one challenger. Primary Elections and the respective Primary Ballot is only for races that have more than two competitors. In other words, with only one opponent, I automatically move forward to the General Election set to end on November 3!

I am proud to be endorsed by UFCW 21. UFCW is the largest private-sector union in Washington with over 46,000 members working in grocery store, retail, health care and other industry jobs. When I am elected to the Tacoma City Council in November, I will work hard to protect these jobs and make sure that there is a place at the table for the issues that are important to workers who are members of UFCW21.

I was raised in Bellingham by a single mom. And because of my parents divorce, I grew up in public housing on welfare. I grew up with compassionate neighbors bringing us Thanksgiving dinner, and with my mom going to Catholic Community Services to get me the shoes I needed to play sports. I went to Gonzaga University on a cross country scholarship and it absolutely changed my life. I had always been told how important an education is in someone's life, and I can tell you firsthand that it changed my life-trajectory. After attending Gonzaga, I went to the Evergreen State College for a Master's in Environmental Studies; giving me a heightened awareness of Environmental Action. I received scholarships, grants, and loans to get my education and eventually my job.

I believe in giving back to my community; a value I learned from my mother, Laura. My mom was always giving back despite the fact that we had nothing. My mother passed away 16 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't think about her and hope she would be proud of the things I am doing to make the world a better place. When elected as your Tacoma City Councilmember, I can take my fight to make a difference to the next level.
