I am such a huge fan of Azniv Korkejian - both as an artist and a person. I remember clear as day hearing her music for the first time and being transported in the way that some of my most treasured albums do. That self-titled debut just hit its fifth anniversary and this week returns to to talk about her latest collection Waysides which does some looking back of its own as it gathers songs written across fifteen years and carries them into the present day. We talk about how Azniv has grown in that time, her journey to taking more of the production reins, and her vision for where her music might be headed next. Aaaand - this episode also airs in the week leading up to her birthday! ⚡️🎂⚡️Happy birthday Az! 💝 Tune in this weekend and all this week on any of the stations that carry SHEROES - airtime schedule at sheroesradio.com/howtolisten - or stream from link in bio.
Such a big fan of and her new album The Spur is another high water mark. What an absolute pleasure to have Joan join me for this week’s edition of to talk about the album, recording while seven months pregnant, being defined as a folk artist with a soothing voice, and the ducking and weaving she has had to do in her career. ⚡️ Catch SHEROES on any of the fine stations that carry the show (airtimes at sheroesradio.com/howtolisten) or stream anytime from link in bio.
This audiogram was created last week, before Roe v. Wade was overturned. To say it sounds different now is a huge understatement. I have so many feelings, as you might imagine - as a woman, a feminist, a human who made my life work about exposing misogyny and sexism in music (but also life). I struggled with how to address this here. How to ask you to pay attention to this week, as our attention is very much needed elsewhere. But we need our SHEROES, QUEEROS and allies more than ever. We all know that music is healing, and powerful, and an imperative tool for protest and resistance. Keep fighting the good fight. I know I will. ⚡️ Please do listen to the amazing featured this week as we celebrate the release of her brilliant new album Home, before and after, and talk in depth about motherhood and so much more. Check it out on any of the wonderful radio stations that carry the show or stream anytime - sheroesradio.com/episodes or link in bio.
THIS!!! I am SO excited to share this week’s featured convo with . Holy crap did she have some SUPER important things to say about her experiences and how the patriarchy has affected how women treat each other. Not only that, but you’ll hear such honesty, openness and awareness when Nika shares her journey back to writing songs that would become her stunning new album Arkhon. AND - we preview a couple unreleased tracks (thank you and ) ahead of its release a week from today - 6/24. Don’t miss this! ⚡️Listen on any of the 20 stations that carry today through next Thursday (airtime schedule at sheroesradio.com/howtolisten) or just go to the link in bio to stream! ⚡️🖤⚡️xo
I am such a fan of and even more so now that I spent some time chatting with her about her new album Giving The World Away, her struggle with confidence, and why she doesn’t read reviews anymore. The Aussie bassist/guitarist/singer/songwriter is the featured guest this week on ! Check it out on any of the stations that carry SHEROES (airtime schedule at sheroesradio.com/howtolisten) or stream anytime. Link in bio. ⚡️
This kicked off with releasing one of her best albums yet and I was so moved by her clear eyed, insightful, and deeply emotionally resonant thoughts on the transformative events that fueled the songs on Big Time. Coming out, death, heartbreak, socio-political turmoil, falling in love. We also talk about the patriarchy in journalism, Angel’s views on gender and navigating being a female boss. ⚡️ Tune in to airing on any of the 20 radio stations that carry the show, or just stream from the link in bio.

I can’t believe I get to say these words: is my guest this week on talking about her new album Just Like That… and so much more!!! And talk about kismet: I have been a fan since my 15th birthday, when my sister sent me a cassette of Bonnie Raitt’s Streetlights and Joni’s Mitchell’s Blue. I did not plan it this way, but Bonnie is my featured guest for my birthday week episode, just months after Bonnie and Joni shared the stage at the Grammys getting the Lifetime Achievement award. And as I shared in my previous post, this interview happened just after I spoke with and she put Angel From Montgomery (from the Streetlights album) at the top of her playlist, Bonnie was one of Maren’s biggest SHEROES when she was growing up. I am honored and grateful to be weaving this incredible tapestry of women connected over decades and generations on my two shows - and on and hope you’ll love listening to this conversation as much as I did! ⚡️ Find link in bio, or sheroesradio.com/episodes to check it out and find the public radio schedule at sheroesradio.com/howtolisten.
It’s been a tough week, and I am late to share this amazing news: has been our latest featured guest this week! It was an absolute pleasure getting to chat with Maren about her new album Humble Quest, about the balancing act of motherhood and being a touring musician (and the inherent sexism that goes with that), her experience of performing with and much more. Check it out now at sheroesradio.com/episodes!

Our featured conversation this week is close to my heart, not only because our guest is a beloved friend of mine, but because of the personal journey she took to finally release her solo debut called Under The New Light this year. The story of multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter Maia Friedman ( ) is a powerfully relatable and all too common example of the unspoken, insidious ways that young girls and women can struggle early on with finding our way in music, developing confidence in our own voice, and freeing ourselves of what Maia calls “the default”. Listen in this weekend/week to hear Maia share her story, and describe how despite struggles with crippling self doubt and depression, she persevered and manifested her musical dreams and aspirations time and time again, including becoming a touring, writing and recording member of one of her favorite bands, . The quiet triumph of releasing her debut is embodied in its cover - a photo of Maia Friedman at twelve years of age, already dreaming of this moment when she would release an album of her own. ⚡️ Tune in to all weekend/week on affiliate stations (full airtime schedule at sheroesradio.com) or stream from link in bio.

Throwing it back to 2017, my second interview with at when the second album Capacity came out. It has been so exciting to cheer Adrianne and this magnificent band on from the radio sidelines since the beginning and while their debut Masterpiece totally earned its name, the new double album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You takes that mastery to all new heights. What a thrill to meet again at a couple months ago to tape the current special which airs for the last time today but is available anytime for your listening or viewing pleasure at sheroesradio.com (link in bio). I’m so grateful to & for making it possible, and feeling pretty blessed to have the opportunity to help document the journey of this extraordinary woman and artist!

2021 SHEROES (post 1 of 2)
What an amazing first year of !! As 2021 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the many many women who made the show so rewarding and successful this year.
To my sisters of the airwaves, my Radio SHEROES: it is a rare and precious thing to bring our voices together on the air, and as we are still sadly outnumbered at radio - both as on air hosts and programmers - it’s a joy to have voices from all over the country close each hour of SHEROES Radio with your song pick of the week! Many thanks to .zori and for bringing your skills on the mic and your excellent taste in music to the show and to the airwaves at your stations.
Speaking of stations: to my affiliates - thank you for giving a space on your airwaves to turn up the volume of women’s voices each week!! @89.1thewoodkclc @98.1radiofreesantafe - and especially my home station, . ❤️ I have always believed in the power of terrestrial radio - public radio and community radio in particular - and I love and admire all that you do. So grateful to be part of this community of stations!
And finally: to my small but mighty Team SHEROES - words cannot express how much I appreciate your hard work making this show possible each week. I literally couldn’t do this without you. So much love and gratitude to my website designer and digital manager , my incredible Production Assistant and the newest member of Team SHEROES, my AMAZING new mix engineer !
Here’s to US!!! 🥂🍾⚡️ XO!

It’s beginning to look a lot like on . While lining up a couple of interviews for the season, I started to do some research on our most beloved traditional holiday songs, and found that very few of the ubiquitous tunes we hear everywhere, every year, were written by women. I’d honestly never given much thought to who had created the soundscapes to our Christmases for the last century or so. Interesting fact to note! ✨🎄✨ So I am thrilled to be getting into the holiday spirit on SHEROES by sharing new classics and reimaginings of a couple old faves with the one and only in the SHEROES Spotlight this week, who recently released her fantastic new album I Dream Of Christmas! It was so lovely to chat with Norah and hear about the inspirations behind making a holiday album, writing the new instant classics for it, what her childhood holidays were like, and her beginnings as a pianist and musician. Add I Dream Of Christmas to your holiday playlists, and join us for SHEROES this week on any of the fine stations that carry the show! ⚡️ Full list of stations/airtimes in Highlights or at sheroesradio.com. Or listen in the archives beginning on Thursday. Happy Feministmas!
