SHOW NOTES for Monday October 9th show:
TREATMENT OF LEAD TOXICITY with chelation was first reported with EDTA in the early 1950s. Apparent success in reducing metastatic calcium deposits led Clarke et al in 1956 to treat angina patients with EDTA, and others to use chelation for various forms of atherosclerotic disease. Chelation therapy evolved to constitute infusions of vitamins and disodium EDTA, a drug that binds divalent and some trivalent cations, including calcium, magnesium, lead, cadmium, zinc, iron, aluminum, and copper, facilitating their urinary excretion.
67 years of clinical experience. Ridiculed by many, including myself. Until I tool the training to learn the science. They mainstream considered it possibly unsafe (any medical intervention has risk) The risk for cardiac cath and stent is much more risky. There were only 4 serious adverse events during (40x1708) over 68,000 IV treatments. (0.006%)
For stents:

Attribution of Adverse Events Following Coronary Stent
278 died as a result of stent in 368,000 (0.08%) - 13x higher risk

Conclusions: In this large-scale, individual patient data pooled study, very-late stent-related events occurred between 1 and 5 years after PCI at a rate of ∼2%/year with all stent types, with no plateau evident. New approaches are required to improve long-term outcomes after PCI.
