ᏏᏲ ᎠᏂᏬᏗᎯ ᏍᎦᏚᎩ
My name is Micah Swimmer. My family and I live in the
Painttown community, where I was raised. My wife, Carrah and I chose to raise our children in Cherokee and have them attend Cherokee Central Schools.

I am a proud graduate of Cherokee Central Schools, class of 2004. I furthered my education at Haskell Indian Nations University where I was also a member of the Fighting Indians football team. I earned my Associate’s Degree in Physical Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in American Indian Studies from Haskell. I went on to earn a Master’s degree in Indigenous Nations Studies with a focus on Language Revitalization and Documentation from the University of Kansas.

I have been a teacher in different capacities for the past 13 years. I taught
Cherokee language at CCS for the middle school and high school levels and then began working with our speakers, teaching adults to become proficient second language learners.

I also coached basketball and football at Cherokee Central Schools where I used every opportunity to incorporate the Cherokee language and cultural values and emphasize the importance of academics.

As an active community member, I have witnessed the power of working together towards a common goal. I will work to ensure that our children are safe and have equal access to education and cultural enrichment.

When looking to the future of our tribe and communities, we must put our children first. If I am elected, I will advocate for our children and always put them first.

I would be honored to be your next Painttown School Board Representative.

ᏍᎩ! Thank you for the opportunity!
