Buddies with Cancer
An informal group of people living with cancer who like to meet up for coffee and chat, and general support. Ludgershall and surrounding area.
Sorry folks I don't have the energy or motivation to take this any further. Will close down page in near future. Doreen x
Hi folks sorry but with covid around I have not really been in the mood for coffee at Mary's. Hope you are all keeping safe and well. Let's see what the next few months bring.
Sorry folks not really been in the best state to organise anything recently. I think we are all wary with Covid and hope you have all managed to get your jabs. Things are not really any better than last year but we are just getting used to taking more care. I actually caught Covid in October, which I thought would be a death sentence due to various health issues. Amazingly got through it ok and and am grateful for the jabs and also for reiki which was sent to me. Now well enough to go back on chemo. Keep safe and well.
This week is MULTIPLE MYELOMA awareness week. Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a rare blood cancer accounting for 2% of cancers. It is incurable, but can be managed. When I was diagnosed in 2016, by accident, I asked what the prognosis was. I was told an average life expectancy of 6-7 years. Diagnosis is not easy, some will lose their battle in 1-2 years, some have been known to live 10-15 years. The cancer attacks your bones and as it was discovered that it had destroyed one of my vertebrae, my spine was compromised and I had to wear a body brace for two months in a very hot summer. I had 4 months of chemo, then a couple of months later a very high chemo dose followed by a stem cell transplant; this was one of the most horrendous experiences I have ever had.
Currently I am on what is called "maintenance chemo" taking chemo tablets 3 weeks at a time, with one week in between. This fairly new treatment is to help keep you in remission.
I have been very lucky. I have time to put my affairs in order, I have seen my oldest grandson start school, have seen my oldest son get married and hopefully can continue to spend time with my family.
The staff at Salisbury hospital have been amazing throughout. I am also lucky that I have a husband who takes care of me because I have other medical issues as well. My biggest problem is total exhaustion, I could sleep for England.
By raising this awareness we would like to encourage you to make a donation to Myeloma UK at www.myeloma.org.uk to help research this condition.
Thank you.🙂🙂

Hi everyone, hoping you are keeping safe and not succumbed to the Coronavirus.
Hopefully by June we will be able to start meeting up again.
best wishes.
Pleased to say bloods ok and cancer behaving. Just got to avoid Covid. Keep safe everyone
Hi hope you are all keeping safe. I am going through a bit of a depressive state, mainly due to thinking about my cancer and related issues; Covid is a bit of an issue for many but my cancer is affecting me more than Covid. It is wonderful tho' to see all the many volunteers who are helping in so many ways, and our NHS workers need all the support they can get, and respect.
wishing you all a safe and peaceful xmas. Take care.
Sorry folks, no more meetings now til we are out of lockdown. Still here in case anyone needs to chat. Keep safe. Doreen x

Future meetings will be 2 pm (not 10.30 am)
Hi have booked Mary's tearoom for 2pm Wednesday - is anyone joining us?
Buddies with cancer is for anyone who has cancer or who has had cancer or been affected by cancer. All welcome. Feel free to pm if you want to make contact between meetings.
Hi folks. Hope you are all keeping safe. We are trialling a restart of our monthly meetings, on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2pm. The next meeting is at Mary's Tearoom in Ludgershall. Please message if you are going to attend so we can ensure space for social distancing. If too many to be safe we will change venue. See you there. Doreen
Hi folks looking forward to meeting up again soon, with full social distancing as obviously some of us have been shielding. Am going to try 2nd Wednesday of the month at new time of 2pm. As there will be space restrictions please advise if you will be attending September. Currently scheduled for Mary's tearoom subject to space.
Take care and be safe
HI Folks, shielding officially comes to an end on 1 August. Mary's Vintage Tea Room is open but you can only sit outside. Would anyone like to meet up somewhere like Dobbies garden centre where there is more room, or if fine we could meet up for outside coffee at Mary's. Any other suggestions also welcome. Keep safe.
Hi Folks hoping you are all keeping safe and well. Look forward to meeting up again when the coast is clear. Take care. x
Hi Folks hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Although government has said shielding is eased please take extra care as not everyone is adhering to the 2m distancing.
Personally I will only go out if I can virtually guarantee not to bump into people I don't know and that any I do meet have been isolating and taking care.
Keep safe # #
Hi folks. Today we should have been meeting up for coffee, but obviously not able to do so due to lockdown. If like me, you are in a 12 week recommended lockdown then hope you have found plenty to keep you occupied and things to help you relax. I appreciate some of you may still be working but hope you are coping well. Hope all of you are keeping safe and well. Hope to catch up soon. Doreen x
Hi everyone. Hope you are keeping safe at this unique time. Some of you, like me, are under 12 week house arrest, but hope the rest of you are OK under lockdown. Please take great care. If you need anything let me know and I am sure we can find someone to help.
Something for all of us.

ARE YOU LIVING WITH MYELOMA?
Do you suffer from Myeloma, or are living with another cancer? Buddies with Cancer is an informal group being set up for individuals in Ludgershall to meet up for coffee/tea, and a chat if you want, to share experiences and gain comfort from people in the same, or similar, situation. Planning perhaps about once a month, but actual details will not be available until we know how many are interested. Only cost would be paying for drinks if we meet in a public place.
