I had a brilliant day yesterday at Somerford Park with Kath Pinington of KP Equine Solutions. Here’s a sneak peak whilst I’m busy working through your photographs!

When I say ‘portrait session’, SO many people want to run for the hills! They are immediately put off by the idea of posing, smiles on command, feeling awkward, not looking how they want to, and the list goes on! I have designed my portrait sessions to address these issues; my aim when I visit you is for everyone to relax and enjoy the time, including your horse!

Here are my answers to those common things I have heard people worry about when it comes to portraits:

Posing
You don’t need to pose! Of course you can if you want to but I firmly believe that there is so much beauty in the ‘normal’ bits of life. The quick look up into your horses eye whilst a proud smile emerges is so often missed, and it’s my passion to capture these moments! Relax, hang out and have a chat and a cuddle with your horse - I’ll do the rest.

Smiles on command
I won’t have to tell you to smile! My sessions have a 100% success rate for all natural smiles and laughs, because I allow each of you to be unapologetically YOU, whatever that looks like!

Feeling awkward or embarrassed
Do you feel these things when you spend time with your horse on a day to day basis? I’d suggest the answer to this one is ‘No, my horse is my happy place!’. My sessions are run so that you can enjoy spending time with your horse in whatever capacity you wish; I observe how you interact and capture the special moments.

Not liking how you look
Everyone has insecurities when it comes to body image; if someone says they don’t, they are lying! If there is something which makes you feel self-conscious, please tell me. There’s no judgement here, and I’ll never tell you ‘Oh my goodness don’t be silly, you look great!’, because the way you interpret your own image is completely valid. Instead, we will work with it. If I am aware, I can adapt locations, angles and composition to make you feel at ease.

Here’s the first sneak peek from our shoot with the amazing Megan Gilchrist Photography a few weeks ago 🥹

During the shoot, Meg commented that you can clearly see a difference in Joy’s overall behaviour and mannerisms when I’m in my wheelchair. She’s a lot softer and more gentle 🥹

I always knew this was true (especially as we had trained her to do this, although her nature made it a lot more simple), but I didn’t realise it was quite as obvious to everyone else 🤗

I have two dates available for these 25 minute sessions at Wilkinsons Farm Livery Yard. These are:

Sunday 23rd October (lunchtime onwards)

Saturday 19th November

The aim of the Horse and Rider day is to capture photographs of you and your horse and the cherished time you spend together. So many times I hear from people who would love photos but aren’t keen on getting behind the camera - let me assure you these sessions are super relaxed! I use natural props such as gateways and stable doors to position you in a way which means you can chill out and just enjoy the moment with your horse whilst I work around you. You don’t need to have a location in mind, you can leave the planning to me. Some people like to dress up whilst others prefer to stay casual; wear what is comfortable for you! I am happy to consult with you privately prior to booking to make sure that there are no unanswered questions.

I’m currently working on a gallery from a recent session; this includes correction of a white eye and removal of dust/hay specks from the face.

Somerford Park Day 2 😄

I had the privilege of photographing Jemima Skelton Para Rider showing us Joy’s sixth gear!

This little boy was so happy to be on his pony in the show ring, and gave me a big smile every time he came down the long side; he went on to win his class. I imagine him in the future as a teenager moving onto horses, looking back at this photo of where it all began… and that’s why I love what I do 🥰
