Alum Spotlight! Natasha Sterzinger, Ed Psych PhD alum, is currently the managing editor at AERA: Open. She helps authors and editors throughout the peer review process- and helps us build knowledge about education. So proud of her and her work!
Cognition And Metacognition in Education and Learning Lab recently hosted a really successful Science of Learning Workshop for local teachers. Grad students presented on the latest, empirically proven effective cognitive strategies for student learning. Great work, CAMELs!
Congrats to Hannah Douglas, EdP Phd Student, who finished third in the zoom based Grad Slam contest! She presented on trauma formed approaches in higher education. Way to go!
Alum Spotlight! Geoff is a PhD alum of UA Ed Psych. He now supports medical students as they prepare for board exams (and much more). Plus, he bikes and plays in a band!

Alum Spotlight! Dr. Alyson L. Lavigne is an associate professor of instructional leadership at Utah State University. She does research in leader, teacher, and student dynamics in classrooms through classroom observations! Dr. Lavigne is even looking forward to think about how to use AI to help analyze classroom behaviors. Really cool, interesting, and important work!

Alum Spotlight! Sara graduate from the MA program in 2011 and is now director of Academic Advising in the college. We are so happy we still get to work with her. And we are excited for her as she pursues her PhD in EdLeadership! Congrats Sara!

Today, we honor Claude Steele, an American educational psychologist and a professor at Stanford University.
Dr. Steele is best known for his work on stereotype threat and its application to minority student academic performance. His earlier work dealt with research on the self (e.g., self-image, self- affirmation) as well as the role of self-regulation in addictive behaviors.

Today we honor Charles Thompson, likely the first African-American scholar to earn their PhD in Educational Psychology. He founded and edited the Journal of Negro Education for more than 30 years and served as an expert educational witness on many huge court cases.

Student spotlight! Emilia is a third year PhD student in our program who is really interested teacher training, students with disabilities, and evaluation! She is about to start embarking on her comps and dissertation. We can't wait to see her continue to grow and love to see the scholar she is becoming!!
