Title: Set Apart

"Set Apart" is a commissioned work made for a family friend. While painting, I was able to explore the different types of textures that could be made using acrylic paint and Saran Wrap, which is seen in the background. Through experimentation, I discovered that the use of Saran Wrap created a sense of despair in the background by forming abstract lines, making the painting look distressed, and the bright, red colors providing a feeling of angst and danger.

The subject is unfazed, calm, and unaffected by the aggressive and lively background. This is a metaphor for life: through all the turmoil, heart-ache, injustice, and unrest that surrounds us, we can still find a way to remain steadfast in our beliefs, ultimately guiding us to a place of peace set apart from the noise.

“Washed”

"Washed" is a piece that uses symbolism to portray alleviation from the power of addiction. The subject represents someone who is desperately struggling with breaking free from drug abuse. The water and the dissolving pills in the background symbolize the process of cleansing and purification that a person undergoes to finally be washed clean of the substances that they once believed could free them. After a long fought battle, they are overwhelmed with a sense of true peace and freedom.

Throwback to the day it all started: the day I officially opened JodiAnn Taylor Art at my school’s entrepreneurship expo! 🎨

This definitely was a day full of excitement, anticipation, and memories that I will never forget! Sometimes you have to take a step out of your comfort zone, and do the things you’ve been holding back on to get closer to reaching your dreams and goals!

All glory to God for where I am, and where He is taking me! This is only the beginning ✨
