ACTION REQUESTED NOW:

Please contact Gov Hochul to ask that bill A1171A be signed AS IT IS CURRENTLY WRITTEN. This bill will mandate that New York State insurance companies reimburse for whatever kind of therapist you choose! This increases choice and access to therapy during our ongoing mental health crisis in New York State.
We also ask for you to specifically request that Gov Hochul keep Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCATs) on the bill. Recently a similar bill on medicare and medicaid went through and LCATs were excluded. We do not want this to happen again.

[ AREA TO ADD PERSONAL MESSAGE SUCH AS: I have personally worked with individuals who had to end mid-treatment due to a change of job where new insurance would not reimburse for LCAT services or others who could not start treatment as their insurance company refused reimbursement from the start.]

Have a look at this powerful and poignant video of Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCATs), as well as clients, who have benefited from the creative arts therapies.
Then reach out to Governor Hochul to ensure that bill A1171A will be signed AS WRITTEN.
I will link to the Governor’s contact form in the comments.

DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS: VISUAL PERCEPTION - The Inspired Treehouse 23/02/2019

The “I” in DIR is essential in individualizing treatment and supporting an individual to climb that developmental ladder. A sometimes overlooked individual difference is vision and all the complexities in that area, I like this post on visual perception, it’s not just what we see but “how” we see. ://theinspiredtreehouse.com/developmental-skills-visual-perception/

DEVELOPMENTAL SKILLS: VISUAL PERCEPTION - The Inspired Treehouse When most people think about visual skills, they think about visual acuity. But visual perceptual skills help kids make sense of what they see.

Singing With My Grandbaby 19/08/2018

Great article... let the "music emerge" Sing with your baby/Grandbaby songs that emerge for you, "refrains get stored in some compartments of our brains, waiting years for emotional moments to release them"

I gave birth to my son on Monday evening, I already choose to put the song "A Brand New Me" by Aretha Franklin on one of my "Labor and Delivery playlists" the beginning lyrics make me tear up each time

"This is my same old coat, these are my same old shoes;
It was the same old me, with the same old blues...
Oh, then you touched my life just by holding my hand,
And when I look in the mirror, I see a brand new girl, oh, man!

Just because of you, boy;
Just because of you... whoa, oh, oh...
Just because of you, boy;
Just because of you..."

A song that emerged for me during Labor and when I met my sweet little guy, was another of Aretha's the first part of, "Sweet Sweet Baby"(Since You've Been Gone)

"There's something that I just got to say
baby baby, sweet baby
there's something that i just got to say
baby baby, sweet baby"

So ironic that Aretha's music had been a part of my musical preparations for labor and delivery for months!

I would love to hear songs the emerge/emerged for you when you baby, niece, nephew, grandchild, Godchild etc made their arrival!

Singing With My Grandbaby Researchers say that singing is among the most meaningful activities we share with children.
