Yesterday, the Literati Society paid tribute to the Literati graduating students and recognized the Literati outgoing officers, along with the Tigsugilon and Lingualore contributors.

The event was graced by these distinguished individuals who showed heartfelt support: the Literati advisers, Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte Sereรฑo and Ms. Mary Joy Hernando; together with the College of Arts and Sciences faculty, Dr. Homer Bustrillo, Ms. Mae Joy Accion, Ms. April Rose Caรฑete, Dr. Orlando Magno, Dr. Enrique Apostol, Mr. Jude Legaspi, and Mr. Milphene Pinatil.

Truly, the event was a great way to congratulate the Literati graduating students as they walk to the final stage of their academic journey and as they leave footprints of excellence, which the society deeply honors. Also, with the fruitful academic school year, it was a great way to show appreciation to the individuals who took part in various literati-initiated activities and who contributed their service, skills, creativity, and dedication, which helped the society achieve myriad notable feats.

On May 20, 2024, the second-year BA English Language students dressed up as the main characters of their chosen autobiography book in their Language and Literary Texts course, spearheaded by their instructor, Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte Sereรฑo. Each of them shared a glimpse into diverse story that recounts the intimate and transformative experiences depicted in their select book, spanning different themes, time periods, and personal journeys.

The event highlighted the deep connection between language and personal narratives, demonstrating the enduring impact of sharing one's life experiences that serve as a source of inspiration and a beacon of hope to many.

Together, letโ€™s appreciate the beauty of personal memoirs and its ability to touch individuals across different times and places.

Yesterday, the Research Slam 2024 took center stage, highlighting the 2nd and 3rd year students who exude great enthusiasm and knowledge towards their individual linguistic studies. Their presentations delved into diverse areas such as language, culture, and society; translation studies; semantics and stylistics; Philippine English; and language and gender. They demonstrated strong dedication and desire to impart and defend their interesting linguistic studies, reflecting the character of English language majors.

With the theme โ€œCharting the Linguistic Landscape: Bridging Cultures, Connecting Communities", the event was graced by these distinguished individuals who not only allotted their precious times but definitely showed overwhelming support, which contributed to the overall success of the event: Dr. Gloria C. Cuevas, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Joavanni M. Pacaldo, Chairperson of Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts; the panel members, Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte Sereรฑo, Ms. Mary Joy Hernando and Mr. Louie Nikki Kyamko; along with the departmentโ€™s faculty, Dr. Enrique Apostol, Ms. April Rose Caรฑete, Ms. Princess Michelle Divine Flores, Mr. Jude Legaspi, and Ms. Ivory B. Sadoguio.

The event served as a testament to how the society values contributing to the study of language to bridge cultures and connect communities through unique and relevant studies. It definitely filled a gap and crossed topics that are enriching and significant to the complexity of language.

The 2nd-year Literati students majoring in English Language are set for linguistic, cultural, and societal exploration. They are about to present their research papers on May 28, 2024, highlighting the theme โ€œCharting the Linguistic Landscape: Bridging Cultures, Connecting Communities.โ€ As language continuously evolves alongside its variations, these studies will help to fill linguistic gaps and connect people across diverse cultural backgrounds.

A goodbye to a sweet end

The other day, the Literati Days finally concluded. It was a culmination of the successful event on day one, highlighting other sets of activities and the awarding of winners. With the theme "Literati Forces Unleashed: An Intergalactic Odyssey".

The event was graced by the presence of these honorable individuals who showed warm support: Dr. Gloria C. Cuevas, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Joavanni Pacaldo, Chairperson of the Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and Bachelor of Performing Arts; the literati society advisers, Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte-Sereรฑo and Ms. Mary Joy Hernando; along with the departmentโ€™s faculty, Dr. Homer Bustrillo, Ms. Mae Joy Accion, and Ms. Princess Michelle Divine Flores.

The activities included the presentation of the Top 8 from the Parade of Literary Characters, impromptu speech, oratorical speech, and declamation.

Among the three teamsโ€”the Rebel Alliance, the Jedi Order, and the Mandaloriansโ€”the Mandalorians emerged as the overall champion, garnering the highest score based on the various activities.

The event undoubtedly unleashed Literatis hidden force of intellect and talent. Ultimately, it was a great odyssey, encapsulating camaraderie amidst the battle, and the love for literature.

The Literati Days started yesterday with the theme "Literati Forces Unleashed: An Intergalactic Odyssey." The event showcased the creativity, intellect, and talent of each Literati, bringing them closer together.

Distinguished individuals attending the event were Dr. Joavanni Pacaldo, the chairperson of Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts, along with the Literati advisers Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte-Sereรฑo and Ms. Mary Joy Hernando. The esteemed faculty members Dr. Homer Bustrillo, Ms. May Joy Accion, and Ms. April Rose Caรฑete were also present.

The activities included a parade of literary characters, where the Literatis dressed up as their favorite characters from movies or books. There were also spelling bees, quiz bowls, poetry making, copy editing, and essay writing contests.

Overall, the event was a great success in celebrating literature in our society.

Eloquentia 2.0 marked another milestone of eloquence for the Literati Society, as they held the event on March 6, 2024, in room 520. The event highlighted the theme, โ€œEchoes of the Mind: A Story Untold,โ€ which showed the Literatis' ability to respond to mind-stirring questions and deliver personal speeches with grace.

The event was honored by the presence of the esteemed advisers of the society: Dr. Raiza Rhea Reponte-Sereรฑo and Ms. Mary Joy Hernando, who showed unwavering support. The event began with words of welcome from the societyโ€™s vice president, Ms. Kimberly Pulmones. Following that, Ms. Liz Tabada, the beloved president of the society, energized the minds of everyone present with a few unique words, expanding the vocabulary of Literatis.

The event then proceeded to the main highlight, the impromptu and prepared speeches. Participants from every year level delivered impressive and insightful answers in the impromptu speech category, while in the prepared speech category, participants warmed the audience with their touching original speeches. Subsequently, selected Literati evaluators provided constructive feedbacks on how the participants delivered their speeches.

Winners were then declared from different categories. In the Impromptu Speech category, Rynan Medida secured first place, Eros Ken Niรฑo Bisnar secured second place, and May Ann Gabito secured third place. In the Prepared Speech category, Dairy Jay Saranillo claimed first place, Frankly Loyd Luntao got the second, and Sophia Louise Alleusada got the third.

The society triumphed as Eloquentia 2.0 successfully concluded and is eagerly looking forward to the next event celebrating eloquence.

March 1, 2024, marked a magical day at the Barangay Hipodromo gym as UC Cas Cares and Literati volunteers hosted 'Once Upon a Time: 'A Tail of Kindness and Respect'. The Day Care pupils swam across the magical world, and they were amazed to find stories with some important values that are not the part of fairy tales.

The realization of the event was the result of the joint efforts of barangay officials, teachers and parents who played their part. The whole gym resonated with the laughter as tales of kindness were told, leaving imprinted impressions on the young hearts. As volunteers of UC Cas Cares and Literati rolled up their sleeves, they saw in the eyes of the children real happiness. Hence, it became clear that when communities join hands, they make magic moments and achieve sustainable solutions.

On February 17, 2024, a vibrant gathering of Literati students, esteemed CAS faculty members, and alumni converged at the University of the Philippines - Professional Schools, along with the participants from other renowned universities, to partake in the enriching English Language Teaching Seminar and Workshop.

The participants were graced with esteemed speakers from different universities who shared their expertise, insights, and innovative approaches to language teaching and learning. Every workshop was created to encourage participants' creativity, critical thinking, and cooperative problem-solving, allowing for an immersive and dynamic learning experience.
