Pineapple!🍍

The pineapple is the symbol many use to symbolise IVF and fertility treatment, but you may wonder why?

Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain. Which helps in the digestion of food. Some, suggest bromelain has anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulant properties which is theorised to help embryo implantation. Now the current evidence doesn’t support this, therefore eating large amounts of pineapple during treatment is not advised and should be discussed with you doctor.

However, the pineapple with its hard, defensive exterior resonates with many who have experienced fertility treatment; due to the resilience they feel they need throughout the process, making the pineapple a beautiful emblem for fertility treatment.

I love my job as a fertility nurse, I love supporting people in their process to becoming a family. Many of the couples I care for look for ways to remember their journey. I thought there was a distinct lack of resources available. In pregnancy and when baby arrives milestone cards are a lovely way to remember each stage… so I have created some specifically for fertility treatment. And since not all families are created the same they are adaptable to IVF, IUI, donor s***m, donor eggs, heteros*xual couples and same s*x couples.
