Do you know what crime free housing is? On June 6, 2011 The City of San Bernardino City Council adopted ordinance no. MC-1351. The City of San Bernardino Crime Free Multi-Housing ordinance is mandatory for all multi-family (4 or more units) rental property owners and managers. Source: City of San Bernardino Property owners hold the right to evict tenants who violate the lease addendum. —- Violations include: • Suspected criminal activity (without evidence, regardless of whether the incident results in a criminal conviction) • Suspected affiliation with or intent to commit criminal activity on or off of the premises, by the tenant, guest, family member, child, or other affiliated individuals • A single violation of the lease is good cause for immediate termination of tenancy. Last year, we sounded the alarm on the state of housing. This year, San Bernardino City Council is declaring that this housing is a state of emergency. We applaud this decision and know there's still more work to be done to ensure that our city's actions match these powerful words!
