Munchie the Frenchie
Hi! My name is Munchie! I am a spunky little French Bulldog surrendered to a shelter for health problems. I was rescued by A Soft Place to Land dog rescue.
Two weeks ago today Munchie lost her fight with kidney disease. I have started to write this post so many times in the last two weeks, but just couldn't. When she came to me in April, she was not supposed to live past 3 months. I got 9 wonderful months with one of the most amazing dogs I have ever met. Thank you all for sharing in her story for the last 9 months, I have enjoyed sharing her with all of you.
Are we there yet?!
I had such a fun trip, but I cannot wait to be home! I am so wiped from travel I am taking a snooze on the shuttle back to Ft. Collins.
Mom makes me nuts with the selfies!
Hoping for tidbits during dinner prep!
Doing a little shopping!
Waiting to see a vet so I can get my fluids. People in Kentucky are so nice! I am having a blast!
On a trip with mom! We are going to grandma's house in Lexington, Ky! The airport is an amazing place filled with SO many people! I am in heaven!
I just would not hold still for the camera!
Headed to work with mom. Thank goodness for coffee and donuts!
Munchie had a follow up appointment with our regular vet, Dr. Ashley at City Park Animal Clinic. The swelling has reduced greatly, but it is still there and more localized. They took xrays of her head to see what was going on in there. Because of her kidney disease her body seems to be leaching calcium from her bones and her jaw is very fragile right now and a couple of molar roots are dangerously close to poking through the bone. Surgery is not really an option at this point, they could break her jaw trying to remove the teeth. Her bloodwork is awful, her kidney levels are worse as is her anemia. We also sent off bloodwork to see what her calcium levels look like and we will get the results back in about 10 days (I will be on pins and needles until then!) When she first came to me in April she was given 3-6 months based on her bloodwork. It has now been almost 8 months. And normally a kidney disease dog would not get to this point, their kidneys would give out long before this, but Munchie has such a zest for life and I know that is the only reason she is still with us. I am managing any discomfort she may have because of the swelling and bone density issue and will make sure what ever time she has left will be full of meeting new people and pizza crusts.
Even though I am still pretty out of it, I am happy to be home! They think I have a clogged salivary gland, but they are waiting for some tests to confirm. I just wish this side of my face was back to normal!
The vets are a little puzzled about the swelling on my face. It does not seem to be an abscess after all, at least not to the point where it would need to be drained. It is not a bug bite or allergic reaction. It might be a clogged salivary gland, but they are just not sure. They are sending some stuff off to CSU to have it looked at, but we will not hear back until Monday. I should be home later tonight. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes!
Something is going on with my face so mom and I are at the emergency vet :(
Nite, nite! Love Munchie!
OMG mom bought me green tripe today to try and it was delish! I think it smells amazing, but I think mom almost threw up when she dished it out for me, BOL!
Snuggling with my foster sister Maggie. Snuggling is the best!
I had a seizure this morning so mom is letting me sleep in. Mom hates it when I don't feel good.
Checking in at my favorite store!
My sister Maggie and I are hanging out with mom at work today! It was fun to get out of the house, but we are ready to get out of here!
I am helping mom with an adoption event today, it is a very important job! Notice I am wearing a diaper? I hate wearing them and I normally like to pretend I cannot walk when I have one on, but mom tricked me by throwing a ball! I cannot resist a tennis ball.
Sorry I haven't been on in such a long time! Mom has been super busy and didn't let me use the computer! I have been doing pretty good considering I only have one really small kidney! I have days where I do not feel that great, but most days I feel pretty good. I won't eat my special diet anymore, which stresses mom out, but it is SO boring! I just want to eat regular dog food because it tastes so much better! I do have to get daily fluids, which I hate! But mom makes sure I am happy and comfortable while I get them. And they do help me feel so much better! Even though my health is not he best, I am still my sassy self!
This belly was made for rubbing!
Not my favorite trip to the vet I tell you! But Dr. Ashley wanted to take a look at my kidneys. They were VERY small and hard to find!
I think I might need another bed!
Sitting in front of the ac on a hot day is how I roll!
More pictures from Hops and Harley!
Harley!
Mom is such a dork!
On my way to Hops and Harley! I hope I get to meet Harley!
