Hello jaded cinephiles -
Umami Film is a place on the worldwide web where I will periodically post experimental video essays (re: mash-ups) that combine two seemingly random films into one short, impossible video.
The only rules for me as editor are that I can only use clips and audio from the two films in question and all my editing decisions must be intuitive and not didactic. It's the continuation of my work for Fandor.com taken to a higher level of experimentation.
You needn't recognize the films I am conflating, but if you do (and that's part of the fun) you will probably enjoy the video more. I encourage comments, suggestions and explanations of what I create. In fact, I would love for people to interpret the mash-ups in written form, as I will not do that for you. I hope to post these videos frequently. I appreciate your interest in supporting parody, criticism and commentary of cinema in unorthodox ways.
